Loot from friendly troops in battlefield. Or why the player shouldn't be dressed like his enemies.

I think that it's obvious that the loot from a battlefield is not supposed to be only by enemies. The equipment of ded soldiers was not left in place wether friendly or enemy troops. Especially hi tire equipment that was not supposed to end up in the wrong hands. So after a battle you should at least have access to your dead soldiers equipment. For example cataphract armour and weapons.

Thanks for letting me know. I was afraid nobody bothered to read it or that I didn't make my self clear. It may seem odd but it is more than realistic and not only in the medieval times but also in modern day warfair. Do you immagine special forses equipment to be left in place after they are killed in action just for some enemy to pick them up and use them against you? It seems a must that this is taken care of.

i've always considered the gear of my fallen soldiers is return to their family (rp-wise)
This, but suppose maybe that soldier doesn't have a family, or doesn't want to return it. Maybe in those occasions, you get to take armour for yourself...

yes, meaning that you might simply have a small proportion/chance to loot your fallen ones. maybe augmented by your roguery skill

Yes, you should be able to get the loot of both enemy and friendly dead troops. The problem that comes with that is the fact the loot is possibly worth more than what you paid for the troops, and this can be exploited. I can see people starting to farm a certain troop that has good value (in terms of unit upgrade cost vs items value) and making profit by both killing your enemy and your own troops.

Of course, that being aware of this issue makes it possible to balance the looting system so that exploits can be avoided and depth to the mechanic can be added.

This can be circumvented, if your troops are the money sink in the game and not equipment, like another suggestion suggests.

Why noy quartermaster skill? Its recovering and repairing your own equipment, Rogery feels more like looting other peoples stuff.

Back in version 1.3 or 1.4 I was sure I got loot from my own troops. Several times I be fighting big groups of looters or sea raiders and looted leather and padded armor my troops wore.

Roguery because we were in the hypothesis that we return that equipment to the fallen's families. so only the lone ones will leave you their equipment and roguery will allow you to "oh, his so valuable helmet ? sorry it must have been so broken that we didn't retrieve it on the field ...". But on the other hand the quartermaster and/or smithing as well, might increase the loot yield because you can fix a few wrecked things.
