Lock Onto Enemies or Keep the Camera More Steady in Combat

First of all, I have to say that I have always wanted a medieval game that forces the player to actually swing and block in the right directions, and this game comes the damned closest I've ever seen to perfect!

However, I sometimes have a problem with the fact that when you move the mouse to swing or block, the camera also moves. You can kinda solve this by making smaller movements to direct the sword so as to minimize camera movement, but I'd rather be able to move the mouse freely without worrying about the camera.

If the camera would lock onto the enemy, then you could execute your attacks with more freedom of the mouse and a less shaky camera. Or maybe you could hold the space bar to lock the camera in place while you use the mouse for the sword. Whatever the case, I'm sure this problem could be fixed very simply, and it would greatly refine the combat experience.

Hmm, I don't think this would work as well as you might think.

Mainly because 1 on 1 player vs foot soldier are rather rare things. Most fight turn into mass unorganised chaos ( with M&B cause a good deal of that, damn inaccurate bastards. lol).

Locking the camera would lead to a lot of awkward situations, namely being flanked by cavalry, or not noticing that sea raider drawing back his arm, untill you have a throwing axe deeply embedded into your skull.

I tend to try to look everywhere as once, or the best I can do to do so. Not to mention, I rather enjoy swinging the camera/mouse with the weapon itself, doesn't really help a lot, but it does tend to both feel more realistic, and to give you a bit larger range of your side slashes.

i got a question hylianhero, when was the last time you locked onto an enemy.
it is a good suggestion but not plausible

I like it! I'd prefer have a key to toggle the lock-on rather than having to hold another key down, though. It would definitely smooth out 1 vs 1 combat, and if you were worried about getting flanked, you could always choose not to lock on...

I can see it being useful.

Perhaps a system similar to daggerfall?

For those who haven't played it, the mouse controls the camera. To swing a weapon, you hold down the right mouse button and move the mouse in the direction of the blow (i.e. holding RMB and moving the mouse up executes a thrust).

Ranged weapons may be a problem. Then again, if you've ever had the misfortune to play a console to pc port with autoaiming it can get incredibly frustrating. Perhaps lock the camera to the body, making it impossible to get a head shot without using free aiming?
