I'm a lord of Sarleon in my current save, and I can see clearly that King Ulric likes me since he gives me most fiefs I help capture and I have about +40 relations with him. In battle, however, it's really awkard around him. For example, usually at the end of battle he's really close by to me, and at the beginning of battle while I'm forming the troops up, he somehow manages to sneak next to me, and during battle, it's as though he's always following me. Is this supposed to happen? It really does creep me out a bit.

Look at it as you and him discussing the upcoming tactics ... and at the end see it as him coming to congratulate you (- plus being close to the player is probably a safe place to be at, right ... )

(- By the way, it is indeed a "feature" that will happen in battles).

Yes, that happens to me sometimes...
Do you tell your cavalry to follow you?

No it is something else (- something that I coded). It will only happen in formations battles. I won't reveal more than that. (Whoever guesses why it happens gets a cookie ... but it is very hard to guess unless you look at the code).

Because the first person in one list wants to be doing the exact same thing as the first person in the other list?

That's all I could guess, but it seems like if the lord of the party is wounded, a different top-tier unit will be chasing me.

Then again, in multiple lord battles, only one person follows me...

When i was serving as mercenary for Fierdsvain, one Berserker always followed me. Like a personal bodyguard in battles.

I wish I was that lucky, actually I`m happy with my army even engage in a fight having all those archers around.

Heh, I noticed this as well. It's creepy at times.

On the subject of stalkers, I was in an arena fight in a Ravenstern town and I spawned as a foot archer. In the battle with the team closest to ours I accidentally shot a knight of the dragon in the foot while he was fighting the enemy. He then ran up to me, and stood right in front of me staring at me. It was terrifying, like his rage at being shot was competing with his honour and desire to follow tournament rules. It also really hindered my shooting - he wouldn't leave. We won the round, but he never stopped standing in front of me.

huh, I've never noticed this before.  :???: I normally set a group of troops to follow me anyways so that's probable why.

It would be best if you shoot or attack a ally they will instanly attack you , that will be more realistic and more fun.

imagine if someone shoot u , u properly attack him straight away !

Maybe if you have high reknown, relationship, or some specific stat, you will get a bodyguard in battle? Ive noticed this as well

I've noticed it too, but it's always an allied lord or top tier unit that follows me around. It is never one of my troops so i think it probably has something to do with allies being present in a battle and perhaps only during a Vicky battle. Maybe it's a little something extra to protect you when facing the terror known as Vicky?

Also noticed this, although for me it only seems to be allied Lords.

Funny, now that I have my own Kingdom I have not noticed this, only had it happen when I was a Vassal of the Empire.

I am no coder, but I would guess it has something to do with wanting the AI's formations and your's to mesh together. And since most of the time your formation is laid out depending on where you are, the AI's leader (Ulric in this case) would follow you around so then HIS troops would use that proximate location for the axis of his formations.

So far nobody has guessed (and/or deduced) correctly. I might make a spoiler about it at a later time. If anyone guesses and/or deduces it, I'll acknowledge it and bestow all honor that is affiliated with guessing and/or deducing correctly

We can divide it into three parts:
1. Who will always follow the player? (Needs to be the correct common denominator -- can be solved by close observations)
2. When does it occur? (A fairly precise and correct reason needed -- can be solved by close observations)
3. Why does it occur? (There is a reason why it occurs. You need to be very deductive to find it out though)
