List of non-recruitable NPCs due to elite status (talking about prisoners)

Knight
All Noldors.
Solution:  Do the salt trick at the training camp or rescue them from other parties.

# = Die even with blunt weapon
* = Will not be persuaded to join you


Snake Cult
-Snake Priestesses  #
-Anaconda Knights  #
-Cobra Warriors    *



Solution:  Knock out cultists and/or armsmen raise them from there.


Heretics
- All Fallen #
- Demon Warrior *
- Heretic Priest      *
- Heretic Confessor  *

Solution:  Capture heretic henchmen.  You're out of luck if you want any zombies in your army.  Try the HordeLands mod if you want undead so much.  Heretic Priests will have to be rescued from other parties.

Edit:  Demon Warriors CAN be knocked out and captured.  However, they are considered elite...so...the chances of another faction taking them as prisoners is....slim at most.

Jatu
- Grim Riders *
- Jatu Battle Riders *
- Jatu Lancers *

Solution:  Rescue Grim Riders from other parties (good luck), and capture Jatu Raiders and slowly train them.


Vanskerries
- Vanskerry Chief (?)  *
- Vanskerry Warriors *

Solution:  You can only capture raiders and they're also recruitable in the taverns, but they don't upgrade so they suck.  You can rescue the warriors from other places, but they're not very useful.....unless you're a sea raider fan like me and just want to keep a few Nords in your party.


Mystmountain
- Mystmountain Shaman *
- Mystmountain Warrior *
- Wolfbode honor Guard *

Solution:  Rescue them.  You can access warriors by capturing raiders, but they're so-so... 


Militia
- Sheriff *
- Ranger *

Solution:  Rescue them, capture town militiamen and recruit them and raise them from there.


Brigands

I think all of them are recruitable as prisoners.  However, I was wondering why brigands don't have higher-tier troops.  Maybe I was used to the other mo, where bandits can eventually upgrade to special units the equivalent of elite horse archers (But with a bandit-ish look)


Seers
- Seerists #
- Doomguide *

Solution:  Seer favorites and seer initiates CAN be persuaded to join you.  Not so sure about Sarleon deserters, but I think I would rather have Halberdiers.

Sarleon

Sarleon Man-at-arms and below will be persuaded to join you.
Sarleon Longbowmen and below will be persuaded to join you.

One question though.  I've gotten Heretic Confessors to join several times now.  Are they erroneously listed here, or does my persistence at reloading break the code prohibition on elites joining?  'Cuz the latter's a loophole that needs closing if it's real.
 
Well, through my experience sometimes the "elite status" doesn't work once in a great while and I managed to get cobras to join, but since 2.02 that didn't work.
 
I'm surprised about the Cobra Warriors. They're only level 20, and the snake cult armsmen only 10... I would have thought the elite status of troops would strictly be a function of level.
 
The snake cult armsmen CAN be recruited from your prisoners... I just did it. But maybe I misunderstood the post?  Otherwise just a correction.
 
All the top undeads do - unless the AI autocalcs the battle. If the player autocalcs it they will persish as well.

The Cobra Warriors have very low upkeep but it´s their mount what makes them that deadly - they´re just level 20, nothing more than your average footpad but riding a hellish horse makes them pretty hard to stop and kill. Which is one of the reasons why I stand every once in a while (horse dead) in the front line with my good old Balanced Heavy Lane and run a single pointed spear wall. So satisfying to headstab those green bastards...
 
You might wish to add to that list that you will occasionally be offered the chance to purchase elite troops.  I just bought a Knight of the Unicorn in the tavern from a Red Brotherhood fellow, and in the 2.0 bought 3 Heroine Adventurers.

I've yet to be offered anything higher than Singalian mercs.....

I will not respond to the blatant opening you just gave me because I am not feeling sufficiently evil today.  The heroine adventurers were in the V 2.0 but the unicorn knight was in 2.02.  Other than him, all I get offered is refugees and Maiden Scouts.  I think SD tinkered with what was on offer in his patch.

Yeah, you could have had a field day with that post.  I suppose I should be more careful.

Is it possible to go in and change the code to make certain units able to join after capture? Like if I wanted to do it my personal game not as a change for everyone. Id imagine its just a matter of a line change in one of the text but I wouldn't know where to start...
 
While I'd have to check with SD, I am fairly sure that stuff is actually in the code, not in the text files.
