Limiting the size of Armies - How do?

Greetings M&B'ers.  Love this place, love the game.

Okay, on to the actual question.

Obviously we can limit the size of the battles, a very simple matter of limiting the # of troops on the battlefield at once... 25-100 (un-modded).

But, how, as a modder / serious gamer, can we limit the size of the actual battles and party sizes.

Here is what I would like to do:

Limit the parties on the game to not going above 50-75.  Not just player parties, but ALL parties.  Any ideas?

Use the ModSys (or Troop Editor) to edit the module_party_templates.py (or party_templates.txt for TroopEd) and change the sizes to whatever you like.

that will only work for random bandit/deserter and neutral parties. if ya want the lord parties stay under 75 there's a lot of work needs to be done in the module_script... same goes for the player's party. it will be tricky to limit self to 75 max.

If my memory serves me right there's something like an 'ideal party size' for AI lords, based on many things I don't remember. If you manage to set it to your desired amount of troops it might work.

By the way, didn't you plan to make some kind of biblical times mod?

Hmmm.  Good ideas, now to figure out exactly how and what and where this is to make it work.  Anyone have something more substantial for me to go in and tinker with?

Yes, I did.  That Mod is... asleep.  Plan to resurect it, but I'm not going to go public with it, till it is about to be released... too much... whining.

This link has TheMageLord's tweaks to AI party size.  This applies to text file editing (and he gives great instructions and explanations).  For the module system, just look for get_ideal_party_size in scripts.

For constant party size, just set the base to your desired size, renown to like 100,000 (so it never comes into play), and leadership bonus to zero (leadership will now only affect stuff like troop cost and morale).  Then there's just the king's bonus and the player-level-dependent modification (which can be played around with to make it's effect negligible).

For player party size look at this (also TheMageLord's):
