Come to Finland! Come see our proud new copyright laws! I'll give you an example:
Here's Persenaama. He is an ordinary Finnish taxpayer, and he just bought an MP3-player. He buys a CD from the local store, then goes home hoping to turn it into MP3s (he'll also use the original CD in his stereo) so he can add them to his shiny new player. But oh noes, he becomes a criminal the minute he does it! Well ****, what would be the legal course of action?
1: He could both buy the CD from the store and the MP3s from an online store, meaning he would have to pay twice for the same product. Or...
2: He could download the MP3s from some site or a peer to peer network (this is only discouraged/frowned upon legislationwise here) and burn them as an audio CD, paying nothing to the actual artists!
Other funny bits about the new law:
1:"weak" copyprotection can be cracked legally, whereas "strong can't. The difference between strong and weak copyprotection hasn't been defined anywhere.
2:If you are caught from breaking the new copyright law, you are to pay an announcement in the paper that says you broke the law. This hasn't been applied to any other crime. Somehow pirates are worse than pedophiles and rapists, so they should inform the community about their illegal ways.
The other Finns here may say if I've got any errors in this post, and if the mods feel like this isn't a topic that should be open for discussion, they may lock/delete this thread. I just had to write this.
