Lend Claimant?

Hello Folks,

I remember the good old times in the original Mount&Blade, where there was this bug that you could lend a claimant to another lord during the "Lend Companion Quest". I had a lot of fun doing that, since finishing the rebellion at the exact moment your claimant was given away would result in the claimant being copied: one would be the king of the new faction, behaving as another lord, whereas the second would still be a companion you could reclaim from the lord you gave him to.

Playing with Warbands native (no mods) now, after trying quite hard, I didn't get a chance to lend away my claimant yet. Do you know if this is possible at all? Do I need to level up my claimant to a certain level first maybe? Or did that bug get fixed? Would be a pity, since this particular one was actually fun...

Thanks for your feedback!

Make sure you didn't lend any other companions to other lords because as far as I know only one instance of the lending quest can exist at the same time. Also, sometimes when lords say they have no jobs for you, keep pestering them (repeatedly asking "Do you have any tasks for me?") because he might randomly offer you the lending quest. And to top it off, if you have multiple companions, tell them to go away because otherwise the lord might choose to borrow them instead of the claimant. (Don't worry you can rehire them later in taverns and they keep all their equipment)

In my experience, lords like to borrow companions with:
- Level 20+
- High medic skills (5+ of either surgery, first aid, wound treatment)
- High intelligence (15+)
Leveling up the claimant is really hard since they're usually level 20 but have nothing put into intelligence or medic skills. You could mod the game and make the claimants level 1 so you can level them, but doing that needs you to start a new game.

There's also a second possibility if the lending quest doesn't work. When you go to an enemy lord, then try to leave, sometimes if you have a companion with high medic skills, he will ask to borrow the companion for a few hours to do some operation on one of his friends or something. Again, you need to pump medic skills into the claimant so this is really hard unless you have a ton of spare time for power grinding them or modding the claimant to be level 1 and starting a new game all over again. The window is much smaller than the lending quest and the companion automatically returns to you when you're done, (you don't have to pick him back up again) but it's worth a try.

Also a third (desperate) option is to be taken prisoner by some bandits or a rogue lord or some other enemy. You could try to lose the claimant that way, but it doesn't work 100% (odds of losing a companion when taken prisoner are something like 50%) and I've never tried this before so I don't know if the claimant will magically return to you or not, or whether you can even 'lose' the claimant this way, but as I said, it's worth a try. Do remember to empty your inventory and equipment of anything you don't want to lose, it might be taken from you when you get captured.

Wow, thanks a lot for the complete answer!
I didn't know that insisting for quests (after the lord has refused once) can increase your chances to get one. It will probably change the way I play... Braze yourself, Ragnar
I should have thought of getting rid of my companions first, too. Maybe it's better to send them off promoting me rather than dismissing them?
Anyway, what I actually meant by "didn't get a chance to lend away my claimant" wasn't that the quest is never given to me, but rather: when they do give me this quest, they never ask for the claimant. Always for some other companions instead. This is why I started to fear that they fixed the bug... Any ideas?

Based on the module system codes, any hero with level 15+ can be lent in the "Lend Companion" quest.

As for the surgeon quest, it can be given by enemy lords that aren't quarrelsome or debauched and if the surgery skill of your best surgeon isn't less than 5 + floor(player lvl/10).

@the real question is: Yes and no. You can't lend a claimant in the former, but the latter is doable it if you've developed his/her surgery enough.

Alright, I think a plan has taken birth here! It's pity the surgeon is automatically given back after that quest. It would need some serious synchronization with a lot of save/load, but if this allows me to keep my claimant, it might be really worth it. I'm not afraid of developing their surgery skill: 3 levels should be enough (3x intel would allow for surgery 6).
Challenge Accepted  thanks for the precious feedback
