I'm going to go with 'no'.

Edit: Read about this 20 seconds ago on the Escapist. Ridiculous - sequels are coming out 6 months after the originals. Its ridiculously annoying. Milking the money cow.

What were their original promises, Arch? I never bothered much with L4D beyond playing it a few times with my brother.

The company plans to add new scenarios to the game's initial 4, as well as new bosses and weapons. "There were strong hints at a flamethrower coming not long after launch," 1UP reported after talking to Faliszek.

Valve initially stated it would be supported with additional content to the extent of TF2.

Oh. Well who believes companies why they say things like that? Didn't Bioware promise multiple DLC's for Mass Effect, but only just gave us Bring Down the Sky?

But they haven't finished L4D1 yet...

Ah, but you bought it. The same strategy has got to work twice!

It's pretty ridiculous. The sequels come out so often that they're hardly 'sequels', having the same graphics & controls. That's why we have expansions!

EA "business" methodology 101: Release half the game, charge full price for it, then release the other half in four quarters known as "expansions", for over half the price of the "full" game.

Whatever you may think of valves dickery, the game play footage of left 4 dead 2 looks rather impressive

Can't say I'm taken with it to be honest. Daylight for a start, wtf?
Pretty much my first thought. Bright sunshine takes all the horror out of it. Wasn't there a reason that the original survivors only moved at night? The infected were less docile during the day or something.

In one of the gameplay videos, you can hear one of the survivors say 'I can hear a witch! Turn that light off!'. You're in broad daylight. Why are you using a torch, and even if you are, how would the torch make any difference to the witch?

It might fun if they run with the theme, but valve could at least have kept up the pretence and released a new map or two before they announced this. It's pretty blatant profiteering.

Well, when its Valve, and so far they've followed up on things like that, I do.  Both the HL2 Episodes (though these have been really slow) and TF2 updates (though these have been odd) have been well done.  I would have waited to buy L4D until the price dropped if I'd known they'd drop it like this.  They said, and I believed, because of their track record, that I'd get more over time.  Oh well.

My personal favorite is the direct port of the Pyro's axe animation and the Scout's bat sound.
