Learning Finnish

Hey all! So, i wanna learn Finnish but there is no Finnish Course in my country, Turkey. I m still looking for Finnish books. Also I searched some web sites but i havent found what i need. This is the point that i want ur help. I need some easy sites to start to learn Finnish. Uhm, ehm, aham so could u help me?

I think it might be easier to ask people who themselves study finnish. Natives seldom know where to learn their own language. Anyway, I'm not surprised there aren't any finnish courses in Turkey, since no one ever wants to learn it Still, I think Hungarians are pretty keen on finnish language. This is handy online dictionary http://www.sanakirja.org if you need to find out some particular Finnish words.

It has large amount of Finnish words, also Turkey is on lists of countries, so you could search Turkey -> Finnish, but probably to get best result is use English -> Finnish translating.

Of course dictionary alone isn't enough to learn language since words can have many meanings and how you use and where is also important to know, so you need to find more guidance as well.

Hmm actually that sanakirja.org bases to english http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Main_Page so using it or finding version which fits to your purposes might be better.

This could actually be usefull. I think in every language, native speekers doesn't know why they put up words like they do, or what are those nyances called.. This applies in finland too.. I can't be arsed to remember what is 'akkusatiivi' or 'illatiivi' not to mention 'akkusatiivin illatiivi'. I speak and write what comes naturally for me.

I think (unless there is actually some Finnish teatcher in here.. or someone relatively close to that..) the best we can offer is help on translations. Maybe even basic insight why it is like it is rather than something more logical..

If you aren't demoralized yet, then good luck on your perilious journey.. After all I'm under the impression that Finnish is ranked to be one of the most difficult language to learn. (Chinese and Japanise got like 40,000 different letters, but they have workaround on that.. us Finnish has nothing to aid studying

I just serached some Finnish e-books, I found but i think they too hard (cause theyre long). So, could you help me to find some easy Finnish e-books for little children or some comics or something like that?

I just checked that out. I nearly understood it. But what is "miehekäämpi"? I guess more masculine. And what is "istut"? Does it mean "did"?

"Miehekkäämpi" is more masculine,
"Istut", a harder one to explain.. but it's like "sit" while doing it, "sitting". "minä istun": "I am sitting".

It chances alot: Beautiful, more beautiful=kaunis, kauniimpi
stupid, more stupid= tyhmä, tyhmempi
nice, nicer= mukava, mukavampi
etc...

Im only curious: Why on earth would anyone non-finnish want to learn finnish? A language which is hard to learn as hell and it's very little spoken after all.

You could try something, that has also an English version of it already translated. Something like "The Little Prince", Pikku Prinssi, comes into my mind. Reading what you've posted, I don't think any "Lisalla on punainen ilmapallo" - stuff will get you anywhere.

I suppose that Aku Ankka (Walt Disney's Donald Duck) would be nice..
It's main focus is ages 8+, but it is composed so that stories are entertaining for most ages. It is released every week on wednesday. And I suppose there should be enough to read for a week, if you are not confident Finnish reader...

Well i think heaven is not in Finland.
Some people eaven say Finland is behind the gods back.
But some national parks of Finland have so beatyful nature that some people would think its heaven.
I think Finland is very good place to visit on holidays, especially in winter.
