leader skills - useless on companions?

Regular
skills like inventory management, leadership, prisioner mgmt are all leader skills.  does this mean upping them on my companions is useless because it only matters what MY skills are for those?  then why do some companions already have +2 inventory skills?  it's pointless, no?  something like inventory mgmt would make more sense if it was a party skill, i'm regretting putting points into my comapnions inventory magement thinking it would help me carry more stuff.

yep they are pointless just used for the NPC-s backgorund like Klethi if i remember used to be in an army for food (storaging and giving them to soldiers so invectory managments +2 / +3)

get it?

Wow this is news to me; i have likely gimped my NPCs.

So how can I tell which skills will benefit the party when applied to an NPC?

1st post!

The bottom of the skill description will say "Party skill" instead of "Personal skill" or "Leader skill".
I really would suggest only upgrading the party skills.

i really don't get why they even have leader skills on companions if it has ZERO significance.  what's the point?  noobs like me will put points into companion's inventory mgmt thinking it will allow them to carry more.

Well... you know for next time!

Can someone verify that the Training skill does or does not have an effect when applied to NPCs? It reads like it would.

according to the manual, for Party Skill, the effect will be based on whoever has the highest rating + some bonus of your rating. So it's ok to pump some points to NPC's party skill like Wound Treatment etc. and your own of course, if yours is lower than the highest rating from any NPC. having more than 1 npc with high ratings on the same party skill is a waste. it's also a waste if you have the highest rating.

Trainer skill is probably different. Everyone contributes. And for leader skills, I think only your leader skills matter, NPC's leader skills are not a factor at all.

rutalkingtome is absolutely right. With the trainer skill every member of the party that has it contributes 10 esperience points to EACH member of the entire party for every point they have in the skill.

Ooooo, found this nice NPC companion chart and tables:

I am not sure that it's always a waste. The non-wounded party member with the highest level of a redundant skill is the usual provider of that skill to the party, so anyone with the same or less amount of that skill is not using it most of the time. But say I get wounded, and so does every companion but one, and that companion has First Aid skill because I made sure everyone had it. Suddenly his First Aid helps me and the other companions.  Only having one surgeon, for another example, would be a bad idea because if they get wounded, or if they are just not present at that particular battle, my army is out of luck.

And if I'm the tactical leader and surgeon but get wounded and have to send my army to fight without me, won't my army do better in battle and have fewer casualties if one of my non-wounded companions has tactical and surgical skill? I'm pretty sure this is how it works, at least I hope it is how it works or I have wasted many, many a skill point. Just from observation I'd say it does work this way.

You are right, having a backup does have its benefits. Personally I prefer to specialize each one of my companions so that they are extremely good at what they do. Its true that when one of them in wounded I looses their benefits. Its a matter of personal preference I guess.

Which makes perfect sense.  Except, of course, the main character's war party doesn't act like that -- nobody can monkey with the inventory except the big boss man.  I've always thought that inventory management should be a party skill.

read my post slowly and you will get it

you say hero leader skills are useless? Well, remember lezalit? he is naturaly a merc leader, and a hero's life story contributes to his/her skills. So, for lezalit, he NORMALLY has 2 leadership levels. so when i hired him, I had more room for more troops! Though this was when I had v 1.0. I never hired lezalit now in v.1.11 cuz I started over again.
