Thinking of buying a laptop for gaming. I have no idea what a decent price for one of these *****es is, but I'm thinking over sounds about right haha. My friend bought one for $3500 and it is a beast but I dont think I need 8 gigs of ram and the best video card out right now. $2500 is about all I want to pay.

Lenovo. For $2500 you can get with with a thumb print scanner, an extra coat of silicon which makes it basically waterproof, a touch screen which pops out from the side of your screen, and a good bit of hardware.

That sounds like a ****ing waste. Waterproof? Don't spill liquids on it. A touchscreen? For gaming? Serious?

I myself have an Acer Aspire 6530 and while it isn't ridiculously high-end it runs any game I have without too much trouble and with the added trackball-mouse I can theoretically play anywhere, because that thing can remain stationary.

Pssh, it's because it's an obscure concept that you've probably never heard of!

In my opinion it's a great investment because of the fact that they are very very hard to break, and have a few neat features which could be used in the future, as well as being good gaming laptops. Oh yeah and a button which focuses a light on your keyboard so you can use it at night.

As long as you don't go and play basketball with them they don't need to be particularily hard to break. Especially not me, seeing as I got a shockproof bag with it.

Still, a touchscreen? Wouldn't that impede your sight on the game a tad too much?

Screens produce plenty of light, it's not a book you need a night light for.

it's a 10.5" touchscreen which is enclosed in the back of a 17" screen and it slides out the side, it counts as a second display so no it doesn't impede on gaming, and it doesn't turn on until you slide it out. But you can start a game on the second display if you wanted.

But **** happens, and people like me who have had previous accidents with laptops or are just accident prone, this is a great investment.

I am too, but somehow I still manage to launch my MyTouch 3G across the room on accident from time to time (It makes no sense! It's like I'm throwing it but I'm not throwing it!)

I only got one fancy gizmo and that's my laptop. I intend to keep using it as long as possible.

Yeah I'm currently sitting at the college with my android phone lugging around a 19lb 21" laptop in a bag. So much for portable when you have a bad hip lol

Well I went on the acer website to get very little info on the new Acer Inspire. Then I went onto the Lenovo website to find a bunch of tiny laptops and the most expensive was $799 which does not scream gaming at me. I was on the Alienware web site which I'm sure most will tell me is aweful and over priced but I don't see what options I have for a gaming laptop.

Obviously you weren't looking hard enough: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:category.details?current-catalog-id=12F0696583E04D86B9B79B0FEC01C087&current-category-id=3B10ECA8EB78454180D484668504D02E

Actually you can just go on there and build a custom one. With everything I'd want, which is the best of the hardware with the 128-core Nvidia and the 16mb cache quadcore, with the cool little lenovo things, it'll run around $6,823.90

But here's just pushing your price range: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:category.details?current-catalog-id=12F0696583E04D86B9B79B0FEC01C087&current-category-id=D25352CD4AE942EFAF2389A34E4DBC9A

Why would you specifically buy a gaming laptop when a proper desktop will be cheaper and have more punch-for-the-dollar than a laptop? Does your gaming require you to physically move often enough or do you perhaps regularly visit LAN-parties and such?

Maybe he just wants to game on the go? I know I would prefer the laptop to the desktop. Get a decent one and it would have more uses in my life than a desktop.

This is all you need:

As soon as I can summon some extra monies to me I'm going to buy it. Price has already drop what it was few months back. In US it should be cheaper too than in Europe.

Nothing as far as I know, new design. There are older laptops with older graphics card and their price is close to that or even over so I would recommend going to laptop with  ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 card because it pwns older models 10-0 while price being affordable.

However, there are several models of G73J, with i5, i7 and i8 processors and with different setups. All has 5870 graphics, but i5 (1700x900 reso) while being cheapest lacks some functions, like processor turbo mode so I would recommend i7 since it has it all and price is only few hundreds more and you are going to use that laptot for years so it's good investment pay little more if you can afford.

There was another one which I was looking with 5870 card, Akoya, it was designed to have 5870 card yet with price tag 999 euros. Here is review:

Only problem is I haven't found it in Finnish markets, although could be possible to get it from EU markets. I think you might get it from US markets with real bargain price. I would order from USA, but then I would have to pay big custom fees which would eat all the savings  G73J is still better though.

Yeah I found it for the U.S. with free shipping.  Sorry man, I know that must suck dealing with customs and all.

Yea they put over 20% something to price in customs if I order outside EU  Finnish prices are damn expensive since there isn't much competition, but I think I can beat those bastards by ordering from southern EU if I can break language barrier ( and I can with google translation ), I already found one promising dutch (or something) offer

And then your expensive laptop will fry because it doesn't have sufficient cooling systems when used for extended periods.
So if you really do have to get a laptop, buy one of those cooling pads as well, preferably one with active fans to help ventilation.
