Land defected to commoners, causing constant crashes

I have a ~780 day save of Perisno where I conquered about 2 thirds of the map, leaving only Maccavia, Redwood and Kaikoth to finish the world conquest. The only issue is that the save is now crashing continuously. When I looked around the map, I noticed the lands I had awarded to the former Emperor Zann now had no faction, and was now controlled by the commoners.

Emperor Zann himself of course had left the realm, but it appears that these commoner controlled fiefs are causing some crashes. Does anyone have any experience with dealing with this particular issue, or have any idea how I could recover the save?

What do you mean you awarded him with lands? He became an ordinary lord or something?

If so, then that's what happens when stuff such as Diplomacy is used that meddles with things it is not supposed to meddle with. 
I remember noticing and fixing quite a few of its bugs in upcoming 0.8 version, including some bugs resulting in incorrect respawning of lords and incorrect destruction of factions, but for now I'm afraid I can't help you.

Yes, Emperor Zann always wondered around with his men after his faction destroyed and it was possible to recruit him as a lord. Same with any other ruler but only if you supported claimant of his\her faction. But i never had any problems with them as a lords, not with fiefs granted to them.

Yeah many of the kings of the factions I had defeated had defected to my kingdom. It didn't even require any supporting of claimants, they just defected to me like any other lord could. I thought Emperor Zann would be no different to any of these other kings, and therefore would make a great marshall. Unfortunately it led to this. I think it screws up because it tries to spawn a commoner patrol and it crashes because it doesn't know what banner to choose or something like that.
