lancing?

I've been wandering around Britain looking for all sorts of polearms... Trying to find something I can lance with. The longest two I've found, the Hasta and the Kontos don't couch... Though the Kontos is still pretty long and stabby...

Is there any weapon in this mod which can couch, other than the practice lances at the tournaments? Or is my horse just too slow/the wrong type (if so, what horse do I need?)... I'm riding a stubborn Ario right now... The other horses get one shotted quite often, and this has a decent charge value, though it is slow and has poor maneuverability.

Also... I found a spear called 'Dawn Ray' is this a special weapon? It is a bit better than a balanced shortened spear, and much cheaper

I think lancing has specifically been disabled in this mod as it doesn't fit the time frame of its use. Lancing requires stirrups and a saddle, things that weren't used until medieval europe. In this time frame of Britain, heavy cavalry didn't exist because of this.

Hmmm...
I'm pretty sure the Byzantines used couched lances in this time period, though they didn't have stirrups.
Hmmm... Why do the tournament lances couch then?

from what i can tell, tourneys are native dittos. For instance, they also didn't decrease the practice bows accuracy like they did all the other bows.

The couched lance didn't pop up for quite a few years in England in this period, I believe.

You are correct sir, even though it existed before it was the Normans who gave the couched lance the credit it deserved and made it the norm for most of their heavy cavalry, most of the rest of western Europe soon followed suit after despite being outnumbered and fighting up hill the Normans defeated the Saxons at hastings in 1066.

Although cavalry charges didn't really win them the battle of Hastings, and most of the Normans at Hastings didn't use couched lances if their own visual source (the Bayeux Tapestry) is any kind of evidence at all.

Hastings was won/lost by the Saxon troops lack of discipline. The shield wall held for what many to believe to be over nine hours as the cavalry charged in and fell back. It wasn't until they gave in and chased the cavalry downhill that the Normans and the battle as a whole finally made progress. Also, as mentioned above, they didn't couche their spears. They held them outward, much like when you hold a thrust with a spear in-game.
