How does it work, i just started a game with this new system, but every time i try recruit someone, it says 'no lance able' and then i can only hire some merc'... how do i get my own men now ??? do i have to go back to native system again, or what can i do ??

Dennis

You need at least 1,000 gold to buy them. I usually take that Merchant quest at the start where he gives you money and then go to my Feif and purchase one Lance.

The option to buy one doesnt even show up in the menu unless you have the right amount of money.

On the other hand, mercenary companies cost 1000 but give you 50 men instead of 10... Just saying. Also mercenaries found in taverns are way way cheaper

Unless you don't own a fief you won't be able to recruit other people than mercs. The idea was to be historical correct because in the Middle Ages knights/lords didn't travel around all of Europe to recruit people but they went to their fiefs and collected some men together with whom they then went to war. But mercs are not bad in skills they mostly just lack decent armour, stat-wise they are on a par with default veteran troops.

Yes, you can only recruit lances if you own a fief, either if you're a vassal to somebody or if you're the king of your own kingdom.

I tried it but started over with the standard recruitment system. The problem I had was enemy Lords showing up in a day or so with an HUGE mercenary army after being defeated. Didn't seem like they had to follow the rules and they must have lots of cash.

I haven't yet include a cap for the lords mercenary hiring thing. Before they used the same as the player, but the mercs would go away too soon and it would almost impossible to get any for the player.

Wouldn't it be better to double the amount of mercenaries, than to let the lords hire how many mercs they want?

Beyond the merc thing the overall Lance system is cool as sliced bread!

yes, definetely! It would be wonderful to have it as an open source mini-mod

The only thing I don't like about the Lance Recruitment System is it's randomness. Whenever you recruit a lance, random troops are given to you, so you might end up with all infantry armies or you might release the troops you don't want then recruit again until you get the army composition you want, but the downside of this technique, you only get a limited number of lance per week, so when you've already used all your lances, you have to wait for another week.

When you are a lord going at war and asking your vassals to take arms you can't choose what kind of soldiers they will be. Anyway there's war and you need men so you take them anyway.

It can be hard sometimes but it's the reality of war, and it's this kind of realism I like. That's a way to prove you're a good commander or not. A good one is one who find a way to manage a situation with the ressources he has, and choosing is a way to skip that.

Anyway I personally don't disband the guys I don't want because in battle, an ennemy killing a guy you don't want is a guy you want who still lives.

Could you be more explicit, please? I don't understand if you said that for the whole thing I said or just the last sentence...

With every lance you recruit you should always get a few horsemen. The typical lance should always include 1 knight and 1-2 squires, or at least a few higher tier horsemen like Armiger Eques/Scutifer for Central European troops. And as I said in another post you might not be able to arrange your army like you can with the native system but you won't have to upgrade them all from scratch as many of the lance troops are already at a higher tier. So, even if you disband some of them to change your army's composition it won't be that much more expensive than native as you save the expenses for training/upgrading to a good part. I own 6 villages which theoretically would give me 45 lances, that's 450 men. In a city or castle you can even recruit up to 14 lances per fief, varies from fief to fief. In Ireland/England where my char's home is, I own 1 castle, 2 cities and 3 villages and therefore can recruit up to 69 lances. If you own enough fiefs you won't ever be in sorrow that you won't get enough troops, believe me. Additionally I recruit almost all of my cav from my monasteries, order knights, and for archers I always exclusively use Cymry merc archers, recruitable in towns. Key point is, if you 'stretch' your preferrences a little bit and use all possibilities for recruiting (there are really nice and capable mercs around) you won't ever have a problem in composing your army according to your wishes or finding enough numbers of recruitable troops.

Yes, with the lance system you can actually  build specialized armies more quickly in the mid and late game.  It took me a while to get used to such a change, but I really like it now.

Maybe a stupid question, but after looking through the faq and such I still don't know: How do you select lance/native recruitment?
