Lance Animations

Users who are viewing this thread

Sometimes I find it hard to see when people holding a lance on foot are attacking. Perhaps you could make the animation a bit more noticable? I'm only playing the demo version, if it matters. If this has been brought up before, I apologise and I'm a newbie so if I messsed up somehow feel free to burn me.

It hasn't really been brought up from that angle, but yeah, I think Armagan is working to rebalance lances a bit.

Theres a point of realism every game has, it has to be realistic enough to not be too corny, and not realistic enough to have a fun and fair game. I would like to see someone use one hand to stab the rider of the horse while stabbing through the horse with a staff, but that won't happen.

Well, not all polearms automatically dismount people when you hit with them. Usually there were hooked variety ones (cannot remeber then name, too bad). And to dismount someone by sheer force of the swing... well, usually that'll mean that you'll end up dead anyway :). Well, it's situational, but I don't think that we should go in THIS level of detail.
However, when you'll mean the horse charge with a lowered, butt-in-ground (cannot remeber proper english term) lance, you are sure to kill a charging horse (unless it's a heavy charger, perhaps, and even it will be damaged and halted, at least) - which is an other viable way to dismount someone, right?
Better beg Armagan to allow us to 'deploy' our lance to meen a charge... and teach spear-wielding NPCs to do so. That'll stop us, players, when we'll finally get a charger and a good weapon, from owning footmen in any numbers with almost no risk involved :).

I just registered..

not to go off topic, I just don't want anyone to think that i'm a cheap son of a ***** and stopped playing after I got done with the demo.

Carry on, gentlemen.

well maybe you could make it so when you strike a mounted soldier with a polearm, theres a % chance to dismount, and this % could be based on a variety of factors, such as the type of polearm, your polearm profiencency, your strength, your encumbrance (heavier armer the better), the mounted soldier's encumbrance (heavier they are the less vulnerable they are to being dismounted), the charge and speed rating of the horse that the mounted soldier is on, wheather or not the charging soldier puts his shiled up at the last moment to block the polearm, etc.

You would end up with a fairly complex formula, because the end % would have be based somewhat on reality depending on the factors. For example, a heavily armored solider with a charger horse would have to be moving fullout if you wanted a chance to dismount them as a naked(more encumbrance would increase your weight and let you withstand the force of the charge better), no strength, low proficency polearmed grunt, while they wouldent have to be moving as fast for a dismount chance if you too were heavily armored with good strength and polearm skills.

(Wang Commando. Sorry, I just love that guy's name.)

Yep, I also think that during the tournaments, archers should be given an arming sword, because it's propper, and I hate not being able to loose an arrow into the gutter cur that's trying to impale me.

That's gotta be one of the most frustrating things in this game.

I may have been imagining it, but it seems like if you rush a guy with a lance he can't hit you because you are too close.
