Lag

Hey, does anyone know any reasons why my game would start lagging out of nowhere? It used to run perfectly on very high settings, now it runs very choppy and slow on low settings. I can't think of any reason why this would happen. I have a computer that shouldn't have any problem running this game.

I installed one game, but even games that take up more space than M&B play smoother on high settings.

aye, same here! low settings-jerky screen(even during small battles if i'm in the middle of action) and during siedg, bandit hideout allmost unplayable(1.126)i don't fancy playing on the lowest settings with load tex. on demand off cause it's just a too high price to pay.

Is it hit lag? Because my game is being choppy as well but it happens more often when I hit something. Btw Archon I didn't add anything to my pc I actually did the opposite and reset the memory getting rid of all unwanted programs.

I have the same problem
I THINK it started after I upgraded from 1.113 to 1.125

It would lag at the start of battle, like it was loading something. The game would get very choppy.
After 20 - 30 seconds the choppiness will die down, and everything is smooth again.
This is not lags caused by spawning units. The choppiness usually starts after the troops clash. Before that, everything is dandy. And after some time, it goes away.
Until new enemy / reinforcements arrive, but that is only a one-off thing, not like the choppiness in the beginning of the battle.
But it doesn't happen in every battle, maybe about one in every two or three battles.
So it is not game breaking or anything, but it is annoying.

I tried forcing single threading on/off, load textures on demand on/off, ragdoll on/off, nothing seem to fix it.

System Specs:
CPU: Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz
Memory: 2Gb
Graphics: GTX 260 SP
OS: Windows XP Pro

I would be perfectly happy waiting an extra 5 seconds (loading and preparing stuff) if it means the game would not have to be choppy in the beginning of the battle.

the only small problem that i have encountered after updating my game was that the screen flickers for a second or two when i choose "take a walk around the streets"

Forte you just explained my lag perfectly. Be great if this got fixed soon. Graphics just don't seem to affect the lag in anyway. Even in small skirmishes it happens as well as large battles.

Lag can come from text .
I does have lag when i kill too much enemies troops in same time ( specialy when you use charge with cavalery ) . have like 10 lines + in same time who said xxxx killed by vaegirs knights in green , that make me lagging .
So that have nothing to do with graphic cards , just M&B warband problem script , means Warband need more optimize by the devs .
Nearly nothing to do against that beside TaleWorlds themself .

Forte, when you say it seems like its loading is the HDD actually active during the choppy bits?

The only thing i want to see now is :

Warband 1.127 patch note

- No more stuttering
- Framerate is back to where it was on 1.113
- Kthx

Hmm... wasn't paying attention, so I'm not sure..
I'll find out next time.

Oh, I though this is a bit strange.. from my rgl_log.txt

Texture Memory: -1 ?
Is this something to worry about?

i might have a solution i too had your problem until i reduced my screen resolution it was way to laggy on 1366x768 until i changed it down to 1024x768 and now it runs extremely well

1) Try tweaking it down to lowest settings. If it works, then at least you know it isn't your card getting fried.
2) Download freeware cleanup programs like CCleaner(Registry and browser clear-up), Defraggler(De-fragmentation), etc and use them to clean up your system. You'll be surprised how fast it can go after that. Had a lot of fragments from downloading MMOs floating around, after cleanup it really sped stuff up.
3) You seem to be having a common bug, "lags whenever I use a dialog command" thing that comes from 1.126. Might want to try downgrading temporarily if all else fails.
4) And if you have the time, slowly tweak every setting in your game until it runs better.
5) Try also disabling the damage text, since it can lag the computer piling up and fading.
6) If you installed any new programs, check for viruses.

Where do I download it?

I play on DX7 now and lag is gone.. i play everyting high and normally it works good but now i need to change from dx9 to dx7 and it runs fine:S

I have the same problem as well with 1.126 patch. Lags terribly after maybe half an hours play onwards and it`s mostly on the world map that it`s really bad. Everything jerks along after a while and gets really quite slow. I`ve mucked about with all the settings and I have corpses/rag dolls completely off. I`m wondering if this is due to all the heavy scripting or if it is a memory leak?  Really don`t want to have to change to DX7 as it will look like playing M&B early versions

My system is fairly good -

Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Nvidia 280 Video Card
4 Gb Ram
Creative Xifi Fatality Sound Card
Dfi Lanparty Mobo

P.S. - I can get games like Arma 2 running pretty smooth on high graphic settings (and thats a nightmare to run on high)

Odd. A lot of people are all saying DX7 is working for them better. Can someone check their Task Manager(all services) while MnBW runs and see if anything consumes more memory than it should? Once it lagged to hell for me and it turned out my computer's antivirus ate up six times the normal amount of memory scanning downloads.

In my case I either drastically reduced the stuttering or totally removed it (still using DX 9) by _turning off_ 'Load textures on demand' under the Video options on the Configure screen -- the one you can access when you start Warband and get to choose what module to load, erm except you click on Configure instead.  Anyway turning that off made a big difference for me.
