Lack of blunt weapons?

Ive played for about a week or so and ive noticed a lack of blunt weapons! A few minutes ago i were very surprised when i spotted my first morningstar in the arms shop.

How come there are so few blunt weapons in the game and those that you can buy are pretty horrible compared to other types of weapons?! The morningstar was a very nice surprise but like i said, ive played for almost a week and this is the first time ive actually noticed it.

Most annoying thing about the blunt weapons is the lack of damage and "quality" they are usually junk section at the arms dealer... wooden clubs, hammers and what not /sigh

Why so few...

The morningstar is just rare in the game.. that's life. Only (AFAIK) Swadian Knights use them.

And as far as I have experienced, blunt weapons are somehow better then they seem. A strike from a Swadian Knight is really devastating compared to anything else I've felt in my face... But that might just be my feeling..

but the morningstar has pierce damage I think..

You might wanna try heavy warhammer for 2h or a spiked/winged mace(I dunno which one is better...) for 1h

He should try the Balanced Military hammer. It is one handed and although heavy, has good speed and reach, like the morning star, and the damage is decent.

Some of the better blunt weapons are a Balanced iron staff, to use two handed. It has a high knockdown rate (where the enemy get knocked off their feet/stunned) and does decent damage once your powerstike is up. Also, its very fast and fast long reach. The other one would be a jousting lance. Combine a balanced jousting lance with a heavy charger, it's couched lance can easily do 150+ damage, and you should have no problems knocking out enemies. (couched lance may take a little practice to get the aim right, but it is well worrth it)

On the whole though, i would say on native its better just to kill the enemy. Prisoner management skill only lets you hold 5 prisoners a level, and you only get 50 per prisoner for selling them. Its not really worth it, its better to just use a more effective weapon that has piercing or cutting damage (although a jousting lance is probably the best weapon when mounted, on foot, you are better off with a two handed sword, an axe, a bow or a morning star.

Yes Morning star's are rare, but all weapons are rare to a certain extent. Because of the wide choice of weaponry, they are all rare, and you only really seem to find them in shops when a) you are not looking for them or b) you don't have the money to buy them

But you are right, there is a distinct lack of blunt weapons in the game, which needs to be rectified. But it should be known that blunt weapons were not popular in combat during the age when the game is set, because of their weight mainly. Swords were much more versatile, easier to use, and quite a bit deadlier. They also didn't tire the user out in a prolonged battle as much as say a sledgehammer or warhammer would.

actually, the maul is a pretty dangerous and readily available blunt weapon. mountain bandits use it a lot, so you can easily acquire it by killing a few of them  but like Seismica said, it`s better to kill.

Yeah, an often overlooked weapon. I tend to look at the most expensive weapons, and the ones with the highest damage rating. But they aren't always the best to use

I say its better to kill, thats if you havn't tweaked the game to change the prisoner management skill, or the amount ransom brokers give you

I use blunt weapons all the time on native expansion, because most enemies sell for 150+ to the ransom brokers, and theres a 2handed warhammer that is more effective than the one in native (does a lot more damage, is lighter, quicker, longer reach. They totally unbalanced it lol)

prisoners slow you down too damn much. And I prefer to sell what I looted form those I killed.
and like you said, Native Expansion is totally imba :???:

It also gives every faction horses, archers, and infantry, making it impossible to tell which is which, makes archery nigh impossible, and horse charging almost crippling. On top of that, theres shield bashing, spearwalls, and lots more.

Yeah, i noticed that balanced warhammer but i couldnt afford it, havent seen it since.

I use blunt weapons for taking prisoners <3

Then you haven't faced a crouched lance from a Kherghit Lancer. With 130 damage i died (bad choice of word you can't die) instantly.
I agree about the Jousting lance. It has a long reach and you'll hit anything you aim at before it hits you. But prisoners are not worth it unless you want them for a quest.

sorry if someone said this but blunt damage all armour about the same so it good against heavy armour tanks and light infantry

Yes babis, the couched lance is the toughest, but what I meant was a normal strike. I too have felt the wrath of a Khergit Lancer, and at 1/4 damage it dealt a bit over 50 damage to me, so that would be over 200 damage.. But as a normal strike the Swadian Knight was the toughest.. around 30 damage on 1/4 dam, that means around 120 damage, with a normal strike... that's pain..

I think that most cool weapons never reach a high status, like Sabres and thelike are good, but they are 'mid-tierly' good. If they perfectionised sabres, like they did with bastard swords, etc...
And blunt weapons never reach high statuses...
