Knockdowns ?

Either with a horse, or when blocking the full swing of a Sledge hammer/Lance at full gallop? Especially if you catch the enemy running away from you

Well I've written before that this game needs to separate from crushing damage and so called subdued damgae.

It just doesn't make sense to use a Warhammer/Sledgehammer to knock out (or down) people Those are weapons used to kill with.

I'd say the best way to do it would be to give each attack a knockdown value and multiply that by the relative speeds of the people when attacking. Hitting someone with a hammer shouldn't knockdown, but doing it to a charging knight should. Likewise, a dagger should almost never get knockdown even if you are charging head on at each other with really fast horses.
 
Knockdown would be nice. A nice sprawling backflop after getting whacked with a maul would sure look nice.

Knockdown and forcibly dismounting horsemen would be amazing.

I think also adding in a players strength here would be important because you can simply overpower aonther person, especially if your fast enough, combined with your strength there are some weapons which will jus whittle a persons defenses and stance down to nothing.

So combining everything you suggested, and then adding in their strengh versus the target players athletics skill and strength might work. I dunno, just an idea.
