Recruit
Actually I have three noob questions:

1) What are the troop specialties of the various kingdoms?
I'm guessing:
Vaegirs - Infantry (ranged weapons) and some cavalry
Khergits - Light-ish cavalry (horse archers and lancers)
Nords - Infantry (ranged and non-ranged)
Swadians - Heavy cavalry (knights)
Rhodoks - ?
I could be very wrong, or just asking the wrong question-- any info appreciated.

2) In the Party menu, what's the function of the 'Move Up' and 'Move Down' buttons?  Does moving a character up give him/her more rank within the party?  Or does it make him/her move to the front of the group during battles?

3) Is there a 'peaceful' M&B mod out there?  My 7-year-old daughter loves M&B, mainly because of the horses and getting to design her warrior woman character.  But she's just too young to manage the combat, party management, and income earning parts of the game, even at the lowest AI setting.  Any casual gamplay or more peaceful mods out there?  "My Little Pony & Blade?"  :)  Thanks for your help m8s.

For question 2 Move up and Move down just makes the troops or character move up and down. For an example recruits should be on the bottom and the high tiers should be on top, in sieges it could be an argument about it since the enemy's have mostly low tier troops out to begin with.
But I can not recall that moving an recruit from the bottom to the top make him any stronger, neither have any new obligations.
Neither being in the front of the group during entry of the battlefield since I the commander always have troops around me at the beginning except in the front since I like to ride in front and kill off a 10 to 15 enemy's before the army's clash.

1) I think you have got em right but the lancers for Khergits are not just light not any off their troops when they are beside skirmishers.
Rhodoks are good ageinst cavalry at least after the game.

3) I don't know about any mods where makes it easier in any way but there should be a way to do it check Magelords tweak list, I believe it was Magelord not sure.

Swadians - Heavy cavalry (knights)
Rhodoks - ?

Vageirs - Best combination(IMO) of troop types...best archers in game...second best cavalry....infantry not as good though...
Khergits - Mounted only...mostly skirmishers' tactics...and lancers
Nords - Hands down best infantry in the game...no cavalry....archers MAY be effective if you use them properly....That'd require a lot of practice though...start with vaegir/rhodok if you want archers..
Swadian - swadian knight = MEDIEVAL BATTLE TANK...probably the worst archers and not so good infantry...
Rhodoks - Good infantry and excellent crossbows(I'm saying excellent cuz they can hold for their own in melee...so best archers for start...)

Best Units..
Archers - Vaegir Marksman(/Rhodok Sharpshooters if you may sometimes want them to go into melee)
Infantry - Nords..
Cavalry - Swadian Knights..

Hope it helps  :)

Right.. I guess you would like my two cents too..

1:

Vaegir: IMO the best faction, but that all depends on playerstyle. They have the best archers in the game (was quite fun, I defended in a siege and since I'm not good on foot I retreated to one of the battlements that go alongside the ladder. And there stood 2 Vaegir Marksmen (and some other troops) and on the other side there was also 1 or 2 Marksmen. They hit 90% headshots.. It was amazing, my guys at the top of the ladder barely got their axes and swords bloody.. I lost 1 soldier, stupid female companion that fell off the wall and got KO'd by the enemy. I don't quite remember if I lost more, but if so, less then 10 and killed around 200 enemies.. So yeah, Marksmen are damn good. Their Knights might be the second best, but the Khergit Lancer have some aspects to them as well, they usually have a bow.. But yes, I'd say that the Vaegir Knight are second best. Many people don't like the Vaegir Guard (the top tier infantry), but its actually a really good fighter. The problem is of course that they don't have shields.. In fact, I think no Vaegir troop have shield, if so, very few. Almost every (if not every) top tier unit have axes. The use of axes also makes them rather good at attacking in sieges, and as said, the marksmen makes them able to defend in sieges. Its a very all round faction.

Swadian: They are famed for their knights. And its simple, they are really good! Their ranged units don't suck, but they are certainly not the best (maybe even the worst, thus making them suck, but I don't know). Their infantry is not super either, but they have rather good armour. Not much to say about them in sieges, but the Swadian Knight can do a lot of damage, and take a lot of damage, so it itself are a good unit in sieges.

Rhodoks: They are suppose to be horseeaters with their massive use of spears, and if YOU command them they are really good, but if the AI commands them you can decimate them with cavalry. Their Sharpshooters might also be the best ranged unit in the game, but I personally prefer the Marksmen since they shoot faster. They are really good at defending in sieges due to their many spears, and accurate Sharpshooters. The Rhodoks are infantry only.

Nords: Basically nothing can withstand a heavy blow from a Nord Huskarl, they are indeed powerfull. But.... That's about it. Its pretty much the only thing that is good with the Nords. The Nords can be good while under YOUR command, but the AI screws it up. The Nords are good at attacking in Sieges due to their many heavy axes!

Khergits: Can be devastating to the enemy, or a total fiasco. Almost every soldier rides on horse, only the Tribesman (recruit) may appear on foot. And every unit also have ranged units all the time, or has a chance to get it (like Lancer). They can be really, really good on the battlefield. They are also quite able to defend themselves in sieges as long as they can keep the enemy off the wall. But if they are broken in a siege they often fall like flies. They are not good at attacking in sieges. It is also wrong to say they are "Light", they use Lamellar armour a lot, and that could be described as semi-heavy.

2: Moving them up and down only decide what unit is to attack first. Say you have an army of 150 and battle size on 100 you can only deploy approx 50 men, so its the 50 first men (topmost men) in your party that spawns first.

3: That's just cute : ) But no, I do not know of any peacefull mod, but I think, just think I've heard of a mod that is basically trading.. Not sure though.

for a peaceful i think it will never be made since well its mainly for war games

Vaegirs: Punishing at range, and when you get close up, they have 2 handers. Ouch. Their cavalry are not to be scoffed at either.

Nords: Do not get close to these buggers. Notorious for 1 hit KOs, and have sheilds for getting close. Their archers are powerful when used right (Shotgun style)

Swadians: Fear the heavy cavalry, as they ride you and your men down. Decent infantry and crossbowmen.

Rhodoks: Pike and Shot, these bastards are numerous, and eat cavalry alive. Particulary light cavlary. Almost matches Vaegir range capabilities.

Khergits: Fast and furious. Vaegir archers on horseback, except these are a little faster sacrificing power and accuracy.

On the subject of combat free mods, the closest I can think of would be the custom settlements mod. It's a bit slow, but basically it's wandering around your town building it up, fighting with bandits optional.

Come to think of it though, it wouldn't be that hard at all to make a combat free mod. All you'd have to do is remove some parties, take out one or two of the quests and you'd have a purely trading and exploration based game. Hell without too much effort you could replace tournaments with horse racing courses (ala training fields), things like that.

On the other hand, if your daughter isn't exactly opposed to the idea of combat, but just isn't very good at it, giving her a character with modified high health and/or some tough bodyguards in her party may help. Using the troops editor to make bandits weaker might also be an idea.

Excellent info and ideas!  Thanks m8.  (Sorry, shouldn't have put so many questions in one post.  Got a few topics branching in this thread).
