Kingdom of the Nile

Hi y'all! I'm looking for a team to put together a mod about ancient Egypt for Warband. don't really have any expertise, so advice on how to either model or code is as welcome as constructive criticism or volunteers.

ancientegyptlogo.gif

Factions: Egypt, Hittites, a bunch of the smaller city states as their own factions, i.e. Babylon, the Sea People, maybe Nubia or Troy once we have a stable version to work off of.

Map: http://www.touregypt.net/images/stories/hittite3.jpg all that area.

Features: Chariots (hopefully), Egyptian map, classic ancient Egyptian weapons, maybe some sort of religious bonuses to different areas or troops.

WE NEED EVERYTHING BESIDES A CODER
HELP WITH HISTORY NOT NEEDED

Id suggest you start looking at some tutorials on either modeling or coding from module development. Usually, it's hard to find a team if the original idea maker doesn't have any experience whatsoever. Still, I wish you good luck on this  Could you provide more information of what you have thought? E.G, factions, weapons, map, features etc...

was going to do the time period of Assyrians (i think) invading. maybe Ramses campaigns against them. Factions would be Egypt, Greece, ?syrians?, maybe western asia. http://the-mediterranean-region-and-all-its-beatuy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/mediterranean-map.gif the right hand half of this map. classic egyptian weps, khopesh, scallop axe, mace, recurve bows. I might include some sort of religous stuff into the troop tree.

Hey there.

Can never have too many BA mods!  (Insert shameless plug here *cough* Bronze and Blood *cough*).

To learn how to mod, read these threads:

Module System Documentation.  Great group of (slightly outdated but still relevant) tutorials on the basics of using the MS.

This thread is your best friend.  "Do YOU want to make your own mod? Look here. (Updated 13/04/10)"
http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,48405.0.html

Also very, very, very helpful:

As to your concept, I do have one question at the moment.  What do you mean by "religious stuff" in the troop trees?
And the best choice for a faction opposing Egypt at the time of Ramses would be the Hittites.

Cheers

mod idea about Egypt is something new right here
and of cause i think it can be to difficult task for people who had no real modding experience
including things like chariots it is not so easy as many can think
and i really seen chariots just in one mod
i have looked some references like  month before and i can say theres not much real historical references for Egyptians armors
and in mine head is only 2 reasons for this
1) they really didn't used armors (but that hard to belive, cause egypt was richest empire in the world)
2) or they used something like linothorax. And it physically has no chance to survive till our days
http://www.flickr.com/photos/cool-art/4449651669/
for model inspiration i can only recommend perhaps look 2 movies
Cleopatra (1963 years) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056937/
and Cleopatra TV-mini series (1999 years) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0178130/

Alright, thats good. Update the main post with more information. Now, could you post some pics of the weapons you want? I could maybe model some for you later on.

jews weren't slaves in egypt. thats all biblical.
khopesh: http://www.ace-dog.co.uk/Alair/Returns/Logs/images/khopesh.jpg
Bow: http://www.instonebrewer.com/bpg2009/samples/la/world/armies/assyrian/Assyrian%20bows%20and%20arrows.gif
Mace: basically a bronze lump on a stick
Javelins would have a large role, only need to re-texture to bronze.
axe: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/14400/14400-h/images/fig306.png and http://www.yourprops.com/norm-4c476f01cc9a9-Mummy+Returns,+The+%282001%29.jpeg

I really like the idea of the linthorax armor, would be good for like elites.
For regular soldiers, just set ironflesh really high

I was working on a fairly simple ( and not very accurate) Kopesh. If this gets going I might pop in a weapon or two.

rgcotl> Also take into account the heat in Egypt. Wearing armour would cook a person, so most of their troops may not have worn armour at all.

During the Bronze Age, armour was pretty scarce, probably even more rare than in the Classical Age.  The average soldier would probably not have worn any armour at all.  There is some evidence that the standard Egyptian soldiers, when they did wear armour, wore banded cloth armour.  In Ramses time it appears that they wore a stiffened leather or linen headdress.  Thickened leather kilts may also have been worn.  The nobility would have most likely worn bronze scale and bronze helmets.

Will get some pics for you later, when I'm not floating down the Brisbane river

Also, here's a pic of a khopesh that I have done:
khopesh_hardened.png

If this gets off the ground, I might lend you some of the weapons more specific to Egypt that I have either done, or am planning on doing.

Cheers

Would you care to explain more ?

"The Hebrew Bible also records that a large number of Jews took refuge in Egypt after the destruction of the Kingdom of Judah in 597 BC, and the subsequent assassination of the Jewish governor, Gedaliah. (2 Kings 25:22-24, Jeremiah 40:6- On hearing of the appointment, the Jews that had fled to Moab, Ammon, Edom and in other countries returned to Judah. (Jeremiah 40:11-12) However, before long Gedaliah was assassinated, and the population that was left in the land and those that had returned ran away to Egypt for safety. (2 Kings 25:26, Jeremiah 43:5-7) The numbers that made their way to Egypt is subject to debate. In Egypt, they settled in Migdol, Tahpanhes, Noph, and Pathros. (Jeremiah 44:1)"
(from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Jews_in_Egypt)

From what I know (and I'm not an expert) Jews were in egipt and had high social and political position under Hyksos dynasty. That would explain why Jews had Egyptian slaves.
After Hyksos dynasty fall, Jews as theyr supporters fell in disgrace and slavery.
Egyptian had custom of destroying any records of theyr political oponents (it even had religious basis I think, they destroyed mummies, statues, everything.) so this would explain why nothing was found about jews good position under Heksosi. Ancient Egyptians also didn't write about theyr failures so for sure they wouldn't admit that Jews did manage to escape and if they had records of having Jews as slaves they would destroyd it to say: "see, we didn't lose, nothing realy happened"

My life will be empty if I wont be able to hunt Jews with my chariot...

(also forgive me my engrish)

Also building obelisks and other stuff would be nice in order to improve your renown.

It's true that all that of jews building the pyramids is fake ****. Maybe some participated, but Egyptians were the ones who actually build them. It was like the military service nowadays. Plus, remember that those buildings were sacred for them, they would preffer to make them themselves rather than leting jews do it...

the jews being slaves was biblical. they were in egypt, but the were just as socially acceptable as other citizens. I might include Jewish Rebels as bandits, so you might be allowed hunt them down with your chariot. BTW any1 know which mod already has chariots? cause I keep seeing references.

sry but wouldn't that offend the actual jews around here? Maybe make them a weak faction or something?

If there are any Jews around, they will very likely already be offended by now. Some of you guys seem pretty racist...
Aye, I've never understood why people seem to dislike the Jewish peoples so much. It makes no sense to me. :/
