Kingdom of Anglor (Need a few questions answered)

Was going to start work on a mod for Native called the Kingdom of Anglor, this mod implements a faction based on Anglo-Saxon England. The island is found off the tip of Rhodok and Nord territory to the Northwest. Now in the implementation of this I've had to deal with some major differences (my last mod was pre-1.0) so I have a few questions and assumptions.

-How do you extend the borders of the world map using the text files or Thorgrim's? And is there another map editor like Thorgrim's but more updated?

-Does the water travel code still exist in the game? And how do I renable it again?
 
Actually extended the map but now something funky is happening, there are much fewer polygons to edit outside of the former boundaries than inside, making it harder to make detailed terrain, why is this?
 
Because you extended map mesh in such a way obviously.

Correct way would be either start from new map, or copy existing polygons, shift them to new position then weld border vertices with ctrl-V

Ah so my simple modification to the module.ini actually just stretched the mesh? That makes sense now that I think about it.

So how could I possibly start a new map and directly copy the old one? Like towns and all? Or is it too much work for just a few polygons outside the map.

Bah Thorgrim's is feeling very outdated..
