Sergeant Knight at Arms
Personally, I think this is still the most broken part of the game, by a long way. What do you think?

It's about right.

Difficult the first time, or if you do it as a spur of the moment thing with no preparation, but if you know what's required, getting your own kingdom off the ground isn't especially hard.

They should do this as a quest that leads you through the process of getting prepped.
This has been a problem in Warband as well.

It should ideally be as hard as possible - as it is basically a footstep into the end-game.

Yes, exactly! I like the way it currently is, kingdom creation should be at a point where one is familiar with the game, build relations with lords and town merchants.

There's nothing hard about starting a faction
Just get good relations with Lords then sit in your castle and let the entire enemy faction kill itself against your walls
Also mercenaries

The AI cheats and gets defecting clans (Does it pay them money?) without having to talk to them on the map and also hires mercs without having to find them on the map. The AI can also get married while a prisoner AND the clan leader, adding another lord/field party which should not be possible. You can't talk to a clan leader in prison and make marriage, why can the AI? Of course they don't even have to walk on the map at all it's all remote cheating.

Who thought money should be the currency for getting vassal clans?
Who looked at Warband lords in the capital throne room and thought "Oh we don't need to do that we'll make the player walk all over and bribe everyone no matter what and make the AI never ever have to do that."
I'd much rather just raise a new clan for 200k, why not? I really come to hate the NPC lords in general, they're so empty and meaningless. I would really be a huge improvement to just make new clans for money. Literally nothing would be lost if you killed all the npc clans and made your own.
If rebels can spawn from not enough food why can't the player make new clans at will for money?
Don't say "Balance" because there isn't any, only repetition of 1 track zombie npc parties.

It will get a bit better once we can make our companions into new clans allied to us initially.
That's super but I don't really want to depend on the worthless RNG wanderers, TW can I just spawn my own PLEASE? Have you played Dragon's where you can make you own party member? Just let me make what I want.

This too, people every single day make a faction with 1 castle, 100 troops and clan rank 4 because "the game" tells them that's what you do and they have a horrible time. It's really hard gameplay help to tell them the only way to salvage thier game is
A: Start a new game and do basically everything differently because you need way more to make a kingdom that doesn't start with it's pants down.
B: hardcore exploit the AI's weakness and game balance exploits in general to dig yourself out of a bad situation.

It's about right.

My gripe with it is that the proper preparation negates the need for vassals at all. If I obtain a big area for my self, the power of which is attractive to vassals and have the martial means to create homeless clans by de-fiefing them, WHAT DO I NEED VASSALS FOR? I can just curb stomp the AI myself anyways!
I can't tell them to do anything like patrol my fiefs, so what's the point? All they can do is make a bulky army that I don't need! Why do I want to make a big annoying faction if I have to carry it anyways and get ZERO NEW OPTIONS! It adds NOTHING!

Vassals, as they are would only be good for the noob player in the "1 castle 100 troops" situation who needs extra field power to hold thier own, BUT THEY CAN'T GET ANY because not enough power, not enough money (nobody mentioned money)!
"Oh but I have 100 relations why won't he join me?" because he likes his house and his *** intact even more then he likes you!

Life is tuff .. so the game is ok. The hardest part is getting a settlement - ALL are owned by powerful kingdoms, to take a settlement means going to war with someone much larger than a trading clan. Revolts allowing "people power" to take control is a good addition ..BUT having "City State" kingdoms is also needed.

.

I think it takes a long time to get to lvl 4 on some builds. Like smithing, or making money. If you go the Warlord route, it’s simple to get there and stay there.

Where I think there is an issue is with taking over City's that have just rebelled and you’re in a position to take it. If you’re under clan level 4, After you take the city, rival Kingdoms don’t/can’t/won’t declare war on you. You can just grow the city indefinitely or until you’re broke (unless you’re smithing)

This post depresses me and takes away my motivation to continue. Ive never played deep or really at all into starting my own Kingdom -guess i just want to know theres alot of satisfying gameplay waiting there for me but i just know there aint

I've never had to carry my faction after I get two or three clans.

I don't know why I didn't think of that, this would make a lot of sense, and make the requirements pretty stiff. Would save angry posts from people going "OMG I have 300 people in a castle with no prosperity and made a kingdom and everyone declared on me, wahhhh".
Personally, I think this is still the most broken part of the game, by a long way. What do you think?
I think it's about right, it's supposed to be a pain in the ass, though I'd like MadVader's suggestion of it being guided or tied to some sort of quest.
Yeah everything here. When it comes to the "grand strategy" part of getting Mercs and Disgruntled Clans (and getting your siblings married off) - the AI has the advantage and can just spawn in Clans ad hoc. I think promoting Companions to Lords will help, until you realize you created 6 Lords who are all pissed off because their "fief" is a section of wall covered in **** and blood.

The bribery thing is quite a bit annoying too, even if you convince an Honorable / Valorous Lord to leave, he's like "Okay, you know that thing I said about honor not being bought? Yeah....forget that and handover 2M"

---

Quotes aside, I think the only other thing that could possibly make it a little more manageable is additions of NAPs. Even 30 days of breathing room with your immediate neighbors after you create a Kingdom goes a long way to finding disgruntled lords and consolidating Clan parties and what not. That said, not like you cannot do that right away, just chill in your castle and snipe enemy Armies as they break themselves against your walls.
