I got a message (paraphrased thus): King Ragnar has died in battle against the Vaegir.  Lethawin is the new king of the Nords.

I've never seen that happen before, is this an SoD thing?  What triggered it?

I'm just curious, it definitely took me by surprise.

This is a SoD thing as it is possible in this mod for kings and lords to die in a fight.

In SOD each Lord/King has a very small chance of dying if defeated in combat, but given the low chances players should still aim at capturing (and then executing) Lords than praying for their deaths.

I agree.
Actually Lamey answered a question of my own with his post - I wondered what would happen when a king dies.

lol ive tried executing an entire kingdom's lord, result im with war with everyone and i got an amazing negative number, that and everyone hates me. the end result the kingdom ends up a sitting duck

Yeah, the relation penalty for executing a lord is huge.

I executed 5 lords and every village in my kingdom went from max loyalty to hating me. (I reloaded)

I understand the lords hating you, but I don't think the towns and villages should really give 2 ****s.

Fortunately executing Imperials does not seem to incur the penalty. (just a small honor loss)

True, reactions and consequences to deaths and killings aren't simulated realistically enough in SOD. Though I have ideas of my own.
