King Graveth is a crafty one

This is a story that, though amusing in retrospect, caused me to rage ceaselessly all the while.

Alright, from the start to the middle point of my game I remained decidedly neutral while politics raged all around me. During this time, I had built up a juggernaut army of 60. "Sixty?" you say. "That's piddle."

Twenty Swadian knights, twenty Rhodok sharpshooters, and twenty Rhodok sergeants. Since I'm playing on normal difficulty, this army about rapes everything, mmkay. So at some point I decided that neutrality was for nubs and wanted to secure myself with the Kingdom of Rhodoks. Sadly, I might not be guaranteed a place where I may garrison my troops or otherwise hole up. I set my sights on Shariz. The Rhodoks are currently not at war with the Sarranids, so I figure, I randomly take Shariz as an independent faction, then pledge vassalage to King Graveth. Tadaa! Free vassalage and an awesome bit of land (being peacetime and all that, since the Sarranids won't go to war with the Rhodoks if I pledge vassalage) to go with it.

So I do just that, and my army rapes everything. Shariz falls in pretty much one day, I take a loss of ten unconscious assorted units, and I'm now in control of Shariz. A quick trip to Jelkala (spelling?) grants me vassalage and peace, so that my newly captured city may prosper.

So I begin developing my city. I build a mill for bread and stuff (mainly since, because I'm rich enough anyhow, I need the constant food source). I create a messenger tower. I develop the nearby towns. I double my army size, and it's entirely composed of ultra-elite units.

Too perfect to last. In what I consider to be the absolute most random thing, the Rhodoks (who was at peace with everyone) declares war on the Sarranids, the Vaegirs, and the Swadians. I sigh slightly, then set my sights north of Vaegir territory, especially the easily defensible ones I could capture and hold. At this point, the Rhodok Marshall and seven counts were standing right by Shariz, and the biggest Sarranid army was a bit away. I think, okay, well, if I want to go on a city capturing spree in Vaegir territory, I need all my units. I'll be perfectly safe; the Rhodoks are standing right by Shariz, and according to the Marshall they will stay there for quite some time, excepting emergencies.

So I set off to Vaegir land. I had soon reached Vaegir territory. At this point the ragestorm starts.

The Rhodoks hold a surprise feast at a nearby castle. Very quickly, they desert Shariz, leaving it ungarrisoned. A small Emir party (of twenty, or maybe less) sneakily steps through and takes Shariz. At that moment, the Rhodoks leave their surprise feast and King Graveth takes Shariz back... for himself. Presumably he buttraped the small Emir party. He then awarded the fiefdom of Shariz to himself.

I rage a bit, but console myself, since I can take the Vaegir cities. Good enough, right? But no, because suddenly, King Graveth makes peace with everyone. Before I could even reach a Vaegir city.

That's right. In a period of four days, King Graveth has taken the fiefdom of Shariz from me, prevented me from gaining any territory, and to rub salt in the wound, he offers me ****ing Jamiche.

TL;DR

1. King Graveth declares war on three factions, one being the Vaegir, which lures me out of Shariz so I can take their land.
2. King Graveth pretends to defend Shariz, telling me that he needs to patrol there.
3. King Graveth suddenly holds a surprise feast, drawing all of Shariz's defenses away.
4. A small Emir party takes Shariz.
5. King Graveth comes back and quickly retakes Shariz. Doesn't even attend the goddamn surprise feast.
6. King Graveth awards Shariz to himself, and then calls for peace suddenly, preventing me from taking any more land.
7. King Graveth offers me Jamiche.

TROLL! TROLL!

Hah, nice one.

It's great when the AIs almost fool you into thinking they're intelligent and not the simple ADD ping pong balls they actually are.

Haha, Very amusing story but so rageworthy when it happens to you

I've never trusted in Graveth out of all the kings he was always the biggest jackass with king Yargolek following closely behind.

1. Sultan Hakim the conqeurer (so far the best king I've seen in warband.)
2. Sanjer Khan the invader (a quick sneak attack with their entire army and suddenly their gone.)
3. King Ragnar the raider  (does nothing but raiding villages and taking easy castles.)
4. King Harlaus the feaster (speaks for itself.)
5. King Yargolek the foolish (always makes war with every faction in my games.)
6. King Graveth the greedy (half the fiefs taken go to Graveth, always, every game.)

I know some malevolent intelligence is hiding in that coding somewhere...

That teaches you to withdraw your garrison from your only fief! I would never ever do that, you cannot ever expect the AI to defend a city that has no garrison. It just doesn't work.

Meh, Shariz is one of the most contested cities on the map.  As soon as the Rhodoks go to war with the Sultanate again--and the Rhodoks and the Sultanate are always at war--it'll fall, because the AI always makes the same mistake you just did: not adequately garrisoning newly conquered territories.  Then you can just take it back!

See what happens when you try to take too many cookies out of the jar at once?  Your hand gets stuck and you end up with nothing.

And then people think the AI is stupid...
Such strategy xD

Your Mighty King seemed kind enough to give you fief even after you failed to protect your old.  You should praise your King for his wise decisions, and his kindness to at least give you something.    Whether he intended to trick you or not.
