King doesn't deny my request for town, he just hands it off?

I'm currently the Marshall of the Nords, i'm also deemed controversial for some reason, i've conquered most of the Vaegir Kingdom, and have been passing up on all the castles, my sights are set on a town. So that's the history part, fast forward at peace with Vaegirs, at war at Swadia, i attack Derchios and take the castle, don't ask for it as a reward, then I take Dhirim with the army and then I ask for it.

I don't get the town (big surprise)...but nor do I get the message that I can renounce my oath, and keep the town? I'm wondering why that is, if anybody knows why.

I think the formula to determine who gets land has changed from M&B1.

In M&B1, I know that if you keep passing castles, the town that you ask for would most likely be yours.

I don't know how the formula is in Warband, but it seems to be based on votes. You have to individually talk to each Lord and ask him to vote for you, if he hasn't already.

Based on the conversation when you ask them who they voted for, who they vote for seems to depend on whether your relation with them is high, whether you captured the town personally, whether you already have many lands or not.

That's a bug in current version, should be fixed in the next patch. That is, option to renounce your oath if you don't get castle/town after a siege _you_ started, should be back then. (Bug 1770, marked fixed/needs confirm)

Means I will be waiting for that patch before starting my kingdom.. I sure hope it'll be save game compatible.

Thanks Rooperi...so i guess the only option until then is to renounce your oath and attack a town, otherwise no go!

current version is solelt based on votes, so the best way to do it is this:

Pick your faction.

Do loads of missions for all of the lords.

Become a vassal

Take a town. With help if the marshal calls is best.
save game
Then drop troops into town, and race around the map and talk to all the lords and hopefully you can persuade them to chose you.

I have Veluca and Grunwalder (which I defended against 800 Rhodoks with just over 200 troops, love that castle) and that is all because I ran around gaining support.

I then became Marshal after I nominated myself and ran around garnering support.

I love the politics of the game so far, but there is a bug when gaining support.
