Killing

Thus:
A soldier can, and will still do so, but unless they're pretty far gone mentally or have managed to convince themselves that the enemy is "The Devil" or some other convenient form of self delusion, they do tend to be rather hard hit by the experience.
People who manage to convince themselves that the enemy is somehow less than human, or evil, etc, tend to do much better. If their enemy has done horrible things to them personally then they find that a hell of a lot easier as well.

Shooting a man because he's one of the men in the army responsible for the deaths of people you love is a little different than shooting a man because he's on the other side.

Well, you must protect the oil, that USA wants to steal.
Wont serve as a good reason, no?

I think that's a good reason for generals and poloticians to justify soldiers shooting each other. Not so sure the soldiers agree.

Probably not.
But whats with Hitler and his nazi's..
They were no mad mans, so whats up with that?

No of course they weren't.

They just believed that they were the most pure blooded and superior people on earth and that the slaughter of millions and millions of people, simply because they were inferior races and therefore little better than animals, was perfectly acceptable. They also believed in other hilarious stuff like hollow earth theory.

As for most of the troops, Nazi Germany was ruled with an iron fist. Soldiers did not volunteer, they were conscripted and if they deserted their families would meet with ugly fates. The years they'd spent going through severe hardship caused by the over the top economic sanctions and reparations at the end of the first world war probably didn't help things either.

What about the Hitler youth?

They weren't volounteers either, joining was compulsery. Although just like adults some of them bought the "Aryan" beliefs, most did not.

Nah, but they actually did believe in Hitler.
Never seen their happy faces?

*Sigh*
Yes.
Because it would have been a great idea for them to not look happy for the camera. That totally wouldn't have resulted in the SS showing up at their parents door to arrest their family for dissidence. Or you know the Camera man's house for daring to publish a picture that questioned the peoples complete and utter devotion to Hitler and the Aryan ideal.

The children in the Hitler youth probably did believe the things they were told more than most adults, for about the same reason that more children believe in fairy tales and the Easter bunny, but that doesn't mean they all did.

I dunno, when there are some nasty people in charge who will kill you and your family because you didn't smile enough on film, I think you generally ****ING SMILE AS HARD AS YOU CAN.

Also, Hitler wasn't completely daft. He knew that indoctrination of the youth is generally more effective than doing the same to the adults, because they are far less set in their ways. Combine that with an intimidated older generation who were unable to speak out/believed in his rhetoric and you have a generation of fanatics. This is the same lesson that those Biblehumping camp organisers in the US have learnt.

Well, Hitler wasnt the baddest man on earth.
He did some good stuff to.
Although i dont know what, but im sure he did.

Yeah.

People don't give him credit for how he pioneered the equal opportunity movement. He ordered the merciless killing of millions and millions of Jews, Roma, Mentally AND Physically disabled, communists and anyone else he didn't like! No one got to feel left out because their minority wasn't being wiped out.

Also, you're an idiot.

Yahoo Answers is fail.

Also, it doesn't count when you go on to do **** that invalidates any economic progress your country has made. Building a wall and knocking it back down doesn't get you paid, and the same applies with Hitler. He built Germany back up, pissed off the wrong people, and got stomped into the ground.

U bet he did!
At the time Hitler took over the reigns of Germany, it was a war ravaged and heavily indebted country with the economy in absolute mess. He was instrumental in turning around his country and converting it into a world power of his times.
And then crushing it into the ground with a war that would last half a decade and see great swathes of the county destroyed, killing hundreds of thousands of civilians in the process. It was the allieds who supplied the funds, equipment and manpower to rebuild after the war. In addition a lot of these economic advances we're made by grabbing the resources of the countries around him.
He was instrumental in putting in place most of the infrastructure in Germany, much of it in use till today:
1. he built the autobahn
No, he didn't. He built some of the first foundations of the highway network to support the war movement.
2. he built the vw beetle.
Again, no he didn't. Unless he somehow time traveled to the sixties to design it.
3. he built the berlin olympic stadium
Huzzah! A giant pointless structure built whilst the citizens of Germany were still struggling!
4. he invested heavily in german infrastructure
In order to take over all of Europe. What a nice guy!
5. he made the 1st practical rockets and cruise missiles.
With which to drop bombs on London, killing civilians at random. Wow!
6. made the 1st jet plane.
With which to shoot down allied pilots trying to stop his aforementioned wanton murder.
7. Great Advances in trauma therapy were made.
By killing millions of people and observing how they died in horrific circumstances! FANTASTIC!
Kind things:
8. cancelled 'operation sea lion', the expedition to England- as it would result in huge loss of civilian lives
Replace huge loss of civilian lives with "Would have lost the war as he was alread fighting on two fronts, then yes! Just for the record of all the answers so far this has been the most retarded.
9. Let the Battle hardened Allied troops(about 1million) escape Dunkirk on humanitarian considerations-could have crushed them all
No, he couldn't of. Infact the troops fought all the way to the evacuation points against fierce resistance.
10. The nuclear bomb technology was developed by German scientists in his regime(mostly same people migrated to USA and created the Bombs that USA used on Hiroshima & Nagasaki- AFTER the war was OVER!!!!!!)- but could not bring himself to use them on humanitarian considerations. (And he is blamed by American and English media of atrocities on humanity!!!!)
The fact that Germany never made a nuclear bomb, and infact lost the war way before it's bomb project came anywhere near making one, may have also been a contributing factor. As to how the American's developed the nuclear bomb, that would be the years spent on the manhattan project, not stealing it from the Germans. On a side note, some German scientists were offered jobs in America to work on rocket projects after the war.
11. A great fall out of WW II brought about by him- England/Britain, France, etc had to cede/liberate most colonies in Asia, Africa, etal.
Thus bringing to an end the severe oppression and violation of human rights by the occupiers in these countries.
Which I'm sure he intended all along! Also, the war had nothing to do with this.

No doubt, great atrocities were brought upon the Jews in his regime. Weren't Jews persecuted in rest of Europe?
Can't remember any other countries attempting to wipe them from the face of the earth at that period in time.
However, consider the atrocities in occupied territories(colonies) perpetrated by other Europeans - native Americans were looted & hunted down like animals; Aborigines and Maoris of Australia and New Zealand suffered similar fate. Asians, particularly Indians were subjected to the darkest forms of treachery, cruelity, atrocities, injustice.........etc; Africans were killed, enslaved and raped at random!! N-bombs dropped in Japan AFTER the war was OVER!!!! The atrocities, open murder and rape of people in Korea,Vietnam and now Iraq!!!!!
Yeah, except that that never happened. And of course when native's were treated badly by other countries it usually wasn't for the purposes of killing them all. Also, Hitlers troops were way better than troops of other armies, I mean it's not like they raped, murdered, killed and looted at all. Well apart from nearly everyone outside of the German borders, but let's ignore that.

All this by the so-called defenders of humanity!!!!!!

And they say Hitler was bad!!!!!!
Yeah, they do.
Let's not forget that 'HISTORY IS WRITTEN BY THE VICTOR'
