I personally think its cooler than L4D because of a couple reasons:
-more weapons
-more varieties of zombies
-perk system
-weld doors shut (awesome!)
-and 6 players instead of 4
You use more than 3 guns through an entire game in KF, whereas in L4D you start with the pistol, pick up a shotgun, and upgrade to the auto-shotgun when you get the chance. Then you're done. In Killing Floor, I usually start off with my knife, then go with whatever pleases me, be it a lever action rifle or a flamethrower.
There are 2 enemy types I dislike, one because they tend to come in groups and they overpower me (a good dislike, it's a challenge), and the other because it takes "the firepower of five third-world countries" to kill him. Fleshpounds are tough, but they don't turn invisible to heal, and they don't have miniguns or rocket launchers. They come in groups sometimes, which makes it hard.
Perks give you something other than achievements to work for.
The non-linear levels let you pick your battles, though my team & I usually end up roaming around the level as large groups of enemies force us to shift positions.
The game handles the number of players rather well. Instead of adding in rather stupid AI to take control of other players, it instead limits the number of enemies that will spawn in each wave. So instead of being much harder when you're on your own, it's about the same. Although, if you have a full game, expect a ****-ton of enemies that your mates might not be able to take care of as quickly as you'd like.
