does annyone else use it?

I use it a lot and it's kind of cheating. when you get that mission go to the bandits, refuse to pay and start fighting them. they'll outnumber you by a lot but just ride around and shoot arrows untill you run out and killed a lot of them, then ride away from them a bit and press escape to leave the battle. go to the tavern and rest then go back and fight them again. Repeat this as often as it takes to beat them. In the end you get to keep the ransom money wich is a lot!

The thing i'm more concerned about is that there's no incentive to give them the money anyway. The ransom money is about 4000 denars and the reward money is 1500. You can get the quest and the money, and just ignore the bandits.

Somewhere it says that they'll kill the girl in 15 days if you don't own up with the money. I've had a bunch hanging around for 30 days and they did nothing of the sort.

really? so you can justtake the ransom money and teach the merchant not to be so thrustworthy by just keeping it and doing nothing?

hmmmm

Yeah, you can just keep the money too, I had one of those kidnap the nobleman quests and even though I got a message that I failed because I didn't do it fast enough its still in my Quest journal. I've failed many quests. I guess you could call me Sir Slacker even though I have a gang of 38 knights. And everyone is starting to run away from me, guess its time to start a new character.

I still get attacked by anyone and everyone, and I'm riding around with 14 vaegir knights, 14 sword sisters, 8 swadian knights, 7 swadian men-at-arms and Borcha.

Maybe they don't like me...

Go talk to the count/mechant who gave you the quest, then they'll dissappear from your list.

Yesterday, I lost sight of a 31-man-strong caravan I was supposed to escort. I couldn't find it again no matter how much I searched so I assumed it was dead and forgot about it.

Then, 3 gametime weeks later, I met the caravan again! It's reduced to 12 men and is fleeing from two bandit groups. Bandits are destroyed and caravan is escorted to its original destination.

Have you tried this? I think at some point, you'd catch some heat from the Merchants Guild. If you've ever had a delivery quest fail, you'll know what I'm talking about. If the delivery merchandise is stolen from you, you have to pay to replace it. If you owe money to the Merchants Guild, you can no longer buy stuff from the merchants (until you pay the money back). I bet you'd have to repay the ransom at some point.

That's my standard operating proceedure since I got strong. But I never thought to exit the fight and go hang out in the tavern to recover. The bandits should probably leave with the girl if you flee the battle scene, huh?

Ah, thanks Lhorkan I'll do that.

You could go to war against the Swadians. Just start attacking their prisoner trains, and as your relationship deteriorates, you'll start getting attacked by the Swadian patrols and war parties.

The largest war party I've seen so far was 140 troops.

yeah ride away from them a bit and press tab you'll get the retreat option. I do it a lot in mag7 with only some of the heroes as companions. my bow kills plenty and when I run out of arrows or when I'm getting too injured, i press TAB retreat, rest in the tavern and go back to fight them. It's an exploit but it makes you rich and gives you lots of xp

Is this really part of the game?

I just keep the ransom and fight them at the same time. I usually get 8000+ for the ransom plus around 2000 for the reward. And you get to sell the your loot and prisoners.
