:???: i was minding my own business when suddenly a khergit army attacks me even though im not at war with them (i was a swadian vassal) so i noticed a khergit castle previously owned by vaeigrs, as soon as i take it over a few messages come up and suddenly im a khergit rebel... how on earth did i manage to be my own rebel faction? im confused.. but ill go with it anyway.. any tips on being a rebel faction?

If you are independent and get castle or city you become rebel, so if u want end become someone vassal again

As a swadian vassal you should not become a rebel, this should only happen when you are neutral and conquer a castle or village :?: Sounds like a bug.

Now that you are a rebel you have two options:
  • try to conquer the 5 kingdoms alone (or survive at least)
  • support one of the claimants (anyone of the five) - that way you will become the rebel of <based of claimant> faction, lords can join you and if you win the claimant will be the new king.
To my knowledge it is not possible to join an existing faction as long as you have castle or city. Both of the above have been handled in different threads, I myself advice you to support a claimant.

Being a rebel you should improve your defences. The lords like to attack the weakest garrison first but they disregard troop quality and just go by numbers. To keep your holdings safe you just need hundreds of recruits.
If you support a claimant try to find one of the faction with the most lords that like you - these can be persuaded to join the rebellion and help you in the fights against the old king.

ahhh thanks a lot, do u know where to find the swadian claimant ? i dont visit towns or castles a lot so i dont know much.

Nip into a tavern and about one in three contain a chap who'll give you info on where the claimant you seek is.Be warned as they move about cities quite a lot.

When using an old saved game from 1.003 in 1.010 you will experience that 'bug'. It happened to me too.

It's possible.  Not sure what the exact requirements are but it's probably a good relationship with target faction or ruler.  There was one time when I was Khergit and I really really REALLY wanted Uxhal but Sangar Khan gave it to some no name lord so I just left the Khergits (with the city in my possession).  Unfortunately, at that time, they were at war with everybody but the Rhodoks and for some reason, even after leaving the Khergits, they were still in negative relationship with me.  Being attacked by everybody but the Rhodoks was no fun so I ran to King Graveth to try and join the Rhodoks but it didn't give me the option to join him.  The Rhodoks were at war with the Nords though so I just helped out their King in a couple battles and eventually, I got the "I'd like to join you as a vassal" option.  And after joining him, my relationships with all the other factions went back to 0 (except for the Nords since the Rhodoks were still at war with them).

Oh, and interestingly enough, if you leave with the city, you get the city's villages too and you get to keep all of them as your fief even after joining the new faction.

That is actually one of the reasons I rebel - I storm Yalen or Veluca and ask for it, don't get it and keep it all (both 5 villages).
P.S. I don't do it to fight the Rhodok, that's a bonus

Same thing happend to me too.  I was even the Marshal of my faction.  I paid my 30 silver to a traveller to get the location of my claimant and found out he's tucked away in the town of my worst enemy.  Even "Sneaking" succesfully into town doesn't give me the option of visiting the castle so unless this Claimant guy moves I'm going to have to attack and defeat the town just to talk to him.  Gawd I love this game!  Even the bugs are fun!

Ya, I also suddently became a "Swadian Rebel" after conquering a Swadian castle. It's epecially strange since I was a vessel of the Nords and most of my party were Nords.

You don't need to be at war with a faction to be attacked by them.  My rebel army is composed of heroes and sword sisters.  I'm at peace with all kingdoms at the moment.  But when I attacked one Rhodok farmer group to capture their 3 peasant women, I had to sneak into Rhodok towns and often had to fight my way in from then on.  Rhodok lords would follow me on the map but couldn't catch me.  All I had to do to get back on their good side was to talk to a lord in any Rhodok castle and pay a fee for peace.  Had I fought any of the Rhodok lords and won then I'd have been known as a Rhodok Rebel.  I think this is what happened to you.
