Keeping captured horses?

I absolutely love this game but there is one thing that would make it even better: I would love to keep an enemy horse that I have captured during battle.

When knocked of my own horse and managing to kill an enemy without killing his horse (not the easiest thing to do) I find it very annoying that I cannot keep the horse.

What I find strange is that no one else has posted a topic on this one (ok, I might have missed it, don´t flame me). I DO find topics about making it less probably that your horse is damaged or killed but I think it is good as it is. Horses do die in battle. A lot.

Another idea: It would be nice if enemy horses, alive after battle, were part of the loot. I guess not all horses should be included, as some run away, but say like 20% or something? Perhaps depending on riding abilities of the people?

Welcome to the forum, Alzheim.

This topic has come up before, but no worries.

Horses are often part of the loot you receive after battles. Remember though, that every soldier that you have in your party gets a *share*. Also, for game balance, you obviously can't get all the items that *should* be yours as you would be so rich that you could purchase the best of everything by level 4 or 5.

I do not know exactly how the loot system is determined, so someone with more knowledge might be of greater use to you on that.

I hope to see you around,

Narcissus

P.S. Nice first post.

The problem with having horses captured on the battlefield as part of loot is that it gives you leeway to get a good horse at the start of the game.

For example, you're a level 1 hunter/squire or whatever, and you pumped horse riding skill so it is 3. You come across a river pirates vs vaegir scouts battle. You join and order them to dismount, take a horse and then proceed to sit back while the vaegirs crush the river pirates between their thighs. At the loot screen, you are presented with a free hunter.

Not so good, is it?

Well, i don't think it would be too hard to make it so that only enemy horses that YOU dismounted the rider on can be looted by claiming in battle. I'd be all for the idea then.

My idea was to get that single enemy horse that I killed the rider of and then mounted. I see the problem with getting a good horse too early on in the game, though. *Sob*

I see how the loot it shared, but when you do the work, you should get the reward. Whats a peasant who can't ride going to do with a charger? sell obviously, but in war the commander takes the good stuff

Hm... "in war the commander takes the good stuff" was a very good idea!
Posted already?

The current algorithm for sharing loot is (I believe) that I get 10 shares of loot, the heroes get 7 shares each and the rest of the troops get 1 (one).

What if level of leadership was used by the algorithm AND I also was given the opportunity to pick stuff to fill my shares myself (not be handed them automatically). As a leader I would get that horse of mine (assuming there was no leader of higher rank in the group also wanting the horse). As a peasent miraculously knocking that knight of his saddle I would grind my teeth but let my boss have the horse.

Success in battle (like number of killed or immobilized foes) should be also used, though. The peasent should be given something for the trouble he had killing the knight, being the first one in the group of people with same leader ship level to choose from the loot.

I assume a lot here. I assume the loot is not randomly generated but actually stuff that was used in battle. I also assume that all characters have a leader ship level property. Perhaps they do not.

I agree that you should be able to get the horse which you exited the battle on. However now comes the same problem again where horses disappear from battle before you can even do anything with them ::*( I sure hope that gets removed, and if it eats my memory I would buy more ram! (tell kingston that, they will sponsor your game lol)

I guess I have enough RAM then. The horses keep standing there in the midst of the battle field, for the sole purpose of reminding me how much I I will NOT get them at the end of the battle.

On the other hand though, any horses you capture and ride yourself in a battle can be killed with no ill effects to yourself or your denars. You can make the horse you are riding jump off the top of a tall mountain and go splat, safe in the knowledge that you aren't killing a horse you bought nor killing a horse you have a chance of capturing.

Horses will only disappear when you yourself are on top of one. If you are on foot they do not disappear. More then often I find myself beating another horseman to near death, and then dismounting to do the final hit just so that the horse stays. However this is really making it sad for me, + I would normally end up getting killed in this process

GAH! that makes it even worse. Please add a feature to remove horses disappearing, I even don't mind paying extra for such ::grin:
