So in my recent playthrough I decided after 1500+ days that the life of a mercenary captain is not for me. It was time for me to lay claim to some little town and pronounce myself Queen!

With being a queen, naturally I need a queens guard! Fortunately I have some very nicely high level companions that are just begging for the job. I have the horses, I have the armor, the gauntlets, boots, helms and even the shields I want them to use. What I don't have is the weapon! I decided on the long arming sword, I always liked the way it looked. Problem is I just can't seem to find any. I spent weeks travelling from town to town looking through shops but only found 2! (lots of arming swords, but only 2 long arming swords) Hell I even spent a month with cheats on so I could teleport to every town as soon as the merchants reset their inventory and only found another 2!

So this has me thinking that maybe there is another way, maybe there is a faction which drops them? I first signed on to the Khergits and fought the Vaegirs but didn't find any, I then whent on to the Rhodoks but the war with Swadia ended unexpectedly quick and I never even had a chance to fight! Same thing happened when I flipped to the Nords after (who were also at war with Swadia).

I am growing tired of searching, anyone know what faction drops them if any? Or do I have to keep hitting the shops? If knew for sure what faction dropped them I could simply start my kingdom in their area.

I remember finding them in Swadian towns and I think the Rhodok towns sell them as well. They seem to be one of the rarer weapons available in shops though.

Swadian Knights can come with Long Arming Swords, AFAIK they're the only troops that carry them.

Hmmm I guess I can get my start in Swadian lands. They do hold Dhirm still which I do so love.

Only problem is they are very small and very spread out so wouldn't get much of a fight with them and if I am attacked by really anyone else while at war with them I will be dragged away from their armies. Additionally at this point of the game most of the lords have jumped ship once or twice, think there are only 3 of their 8 lords that are still Swadian, might have better luck going to war with whoever holds the rest of them (if they all migrated to one side that is).

Or I could break down and go back to my usual Sarranid Cavalry/Guard sword, it also looks pretty and is usually much easier to find.

There's also the Elite Scimitar which has 103 Weapon Reach and 32c Swing damage, it's almost as good as the Long Arming Sword. I remember seeing stores having them often enough.

theres no geographic/faction based spawn for the vendors. just travel around on your missions, and keep your fingers crossed.

I suppose you´re right, that said. it certainly seem easier to find khergit armours in khergit lands. Maybe i forgot native due to floris. But thats how it was there.
I´d also suggest praven/suno, and ofc beloved dhrim as the author mentioned, (btw wonderful idea with a queens guard i love it ), IIRC I found a few, but it might had taken a year or so. Just keep searching and it´ll pop up, also look for item drops. If you want masterwork, maybe increasing town relations or their riches might help, idk. But swadia lands for sure you got better chances than rhodok with their war cleavers and khergit with their schimtars. Best of luck you find some!

Maybe also fight against some swadia knights if you can

They are rare, but can be found most easily in the Rhodok areas, contrary to what most have said (Swadia). Swadian markets usually spawn regular arming swords.

However, I have a quick question. Is the long arming sword truly worth it? I personally don't think it is. Being long, it decreases the swing speed, almost to the same speed as a bastard sword. So if I want a long sword, I would just go with bastard because it swings almost as fast, AND you can double wield it.

?? A Long Arming Sword has 96 Speed, 105 Reach, 33c Swing, and 28p Thrust. A Heavy Bastard Sword has 96 Speed, 105 Reach, 37c Swing, and 27p Thrust. A Bastard Sword has 98 Speed, 101 Reach, 35c Swing, and 26p Thrust. And when using either Bastard Sword from horseback or with one hand you get a 35% penalty to both speed and attack. As far as mounted combat goes, the Long Arming Sword is overwhelmingly superior. On foot, bastard swords give some versatility but, IMO, I'd still rather take either the Morningstar or a polearm/two-handed weapon.

I personally like the elite scimitar for AI companions as they only get the swing option which greatly helps them in battle.

It is more about the look than anything else at this point... The armor I have on them and their level (mid 20's - low 30's) I can pretty much give them those daffy little hatchets farmers have and they will slaughter everything in their wake.

As to the bastard sword idea, I do love the look of it however it presents a problem for me. That problem being that they "sometimes" decide to use it as a twohander. Not a huge issue in the field as they will just hack through most anything while I keep the archers busy from my horse, but in a siege? I need their shields up.

Also as was mentioned, there is a penalty for using the bastard sword 1 handed, this makes the arming sword the superior weapon.

When I first started warband, I fought on foot just as much as I fought on horse. So in a siege I usually used a heavy bastard sword with a kite shield until the shield broke, at which point I would use the sword two handed. It was quite nice, really. Gave me a lot of proficiency. Vraelomon for the win.

And if I were choosing a weapon for myself other than the one I currently have (elite scimitar) I would probably go with that.

But while we are on the topic of bastard swords.... Anyone know how to give the one hand/two hand attribute to weapons? I would love me a sabre that can be used either way. Not like the strange sword, I wan't something that only does slash.

To give the 1h/2h attribute to a slash-only weapon change itc_scimitar to itc_morningstar in the module_items folder.
You can make the strange sword slash-only by changing itc_bastardsword to itc_morningstar and setting thrust_damage  to 0.

I will have to give that a try.

I always thought it was silly to have 2 different twohand sabers in the game, will make the lighter one a 1h/2h and see if I like it.

As I often say to King Harlaus, I support your choice!
I am a great fan of this sword too, and can just confirm you how hard it is to find one.
Patience and luck... Patience and Luck!

I found one of these beauties just lying around in Praven today, low low price of 8k, IIRC. I already have a tempered heavy bastard sword, and have had it for a long time, and I really am not subject to change. I decided to by it for Ymira though, we'll she how it turns out
That's right, I spent 8,000 on equipment that I didn't even need for a companion. Just on a whim, just like that. One of the many benefits of Owning pretty much all of Calradia and swimming in a pool of money

I'm not even really horribly sure how much money I have at the moment... It stopped counting up at some point (not using villages for recruits has its perks... so does an army of companions with spiked maces).

I currently have 320k just sitting here. I'd have more, but I'm losing 50 thousand a week to tax inefficiency  :meh:
But, I digress.
