I think it'd be good to add crouching to the game so you can dodge horse attacks more and arrows especially, also the animations for the jump need speeding up as well as for the running/make the anim match the speed more

yeh, ive only been playing it since today but ive not noticed encoumbrance (cant spell) actually making a difference, it'd be cool if you struggle to move with heavy armour (something like a full piece of platemail) where as you can move normally with just a cloth shirt on.

I didn't either when I played the first few times. After making a footman character I noticed the difference. + I am all for sprinting (even in plate mail for short distances).

Yes, you will notice how much faster your hero is with a higher Athletics level, it will make the difference while on-foot between a slow moving character and a fairly fast one. And you'll notice the difference when wearing a hardened leather armor vs heavier metal armor in how fast your hero is able to move. Athletics can become very useful for an infantry character, and useful even if you prefer to ride because it doesn't hurt if your mount is shot out from under you, if you can escape.

A couple of little known facts:

1. you can move slower when holding the shift button down. This effect is quite difficult to notice, though.

2. You actually do move slightly slower when moving backwards. The effect isn't pronounced enough to affect battle though. My baserker har without armour or weapons with athletics of 8, takes 3.1 seconds to reack one end of that generic inside building, and backwards, takes 4.5

Encumberance is a major deciding factor to survival. Encumberance is only calculated by all your weaponsa and armour slots, so if you only use one weapon say, big mutha axe or sword and maybe a shield with one hander, take the other slots out, and you can reduce about 6-10 in weight. This will speed you up dramatically.

A slight cheat i have found with archers. You can be untouchable if your armour is light enough and your athletic. When an enemy approaches with shield raised draw your bow while bachpeddling, then stop. All enemies must lower their gaurd to attack, as soon as he does he will find a high powered arrow lodged where he used to think that charging you was a good idea
