Actually, American resentment against the French is due to 2 things:

1: France's late arrival during a crucial battle against the British during the Revolutionary War. although the battle was all but won when the French arrived, the loss of life suffered would most likely have been far elss if the French had arrived when promised.

2: The fact that, to this day, France still believes it was their own forces that liberated them at the end of World War II, instead of American and British forces backed up by Russians. Truth be known, there were no real "French Forces," only the few remaining restistence fighters that the Nazis had not found and killed.

Which battle do you mean? Can you tell. I suppose that this is typical neglect of the significancy of the allied forces importancy. Not only Americans do this. It is common all around the world. And what about remaining battles? And what about british navy crushed by de Grasse? C'mon...

I don't know what France believes in so I'll not argue. But it's known fact that Americans tend to forget about all the casulties and sacrifices of other allies during 2nd world war. Sometimes when I see american tv (via sattelite) or read news from american sites I have feeling that they think they'd defeated Hitler alone. Other forces were just cooks and undertakers...
And there was Soviet Union having the biggest weight of fights and casulties. I admit it though they Poland become enslaved by them as a result of the war. Americans very often forgets it.

Did you check the first page and the major post? If you want to attack stereotypes you should begin from there.
And to be honest - French are not my favourite nation. I know a lot of them here in Poland and they tend to be arrogant (except few)
Just show YOUR, non biased vision to enlight me.
Maybe my post seem to be exaggerating French victories during War of Independence, but this due to neglecting it by some peoples.
I like things balanced.
And - it is not possible to learn UNBIASED history. Every nation has their own vision. And it always be like this.
Sorry to say that, but it's sad true.

i can think of only one reason. the french have culture and the americans don't. they only have capitalism and democratie and have started to see that as a form of culture instead of forms of economie and government.

so they envy the french.

if you don't believe me. give me a list of great us:
meals
painters (andy warholl is only great in the ikea sort of way)
folklore
etc

stereotypes are created by ignorance but they continue to exist because of pride and feelings of superiority (and the fact that some people wont listen to others and will allways stick to their own opinion no mather how wrong they are)

Generally I agree with the sentence that people should leave false understading of pride and start to think. Thinkink would make peoples more happy and less violent...
