Just a small thing about siege ladder animation

The siege ladder will look WAY better if it was risen straight, instead of like "flying and rotating"... I hope you get my point

Would you mind posting a small clip? For those of us who don't have a serial key chosen by the heavens...

i agree. the current way makes no sense. i'm a painter. it's impossible to lift a ladder that way unless you're brock lesnar.

With some of the ladders in Village there wouldn't be room for this, though.

so do it sideways, then move it :p

i.e. ...

wall ==> | ======  <== ladder

OR

___________  <===== wall
          =========  <=== ladder

and then just turn it 90 degrees.

I'm thinking specifically of the ladder just over the wall from the outside spawn.  If it was laid at about a 90-degree angle to the house it leans against when raised, it would be too long for the space.  I don't really have a problem with the current animations.  If something that trivial is going to "ruin immersion" then there are far more pronounced game features that have a far worse effect.

you can't say "we're not going to fix that, because there are worse things." there are always worse things. it's working on the little things that will make or break the "immersion" as you say.

but to be completely honest, i'd be alright if they just made a cool, satisfying sound for it :]

As per my thread on the subject?  :mrgreen:  Yeah, I hear what you're saying, but unless we get an actual animation of my dude raising the ladder with his own hands, any changes aren't going to improve much of anything.

It was "a small thing" as the thread title says and nothing that ruins the game (but I'm not in the beta I'm just watching all videos I can find :roll: ). But it shouldn't take more than a minute to change the animation pattern, even I could manage to do that with like 0.2% animation experience.

I was thinking the same thing. But maybe that's not so far away?  :eek:

If only Taleworlds had the sort of funding and resources to give us a high-end graphical experience combined with M&B's solid gameplay!  Of course, then the game would become "mainstream" and commercialized, which is never a good thing.  Anyway, graphics are the least important component of a game in my opinion, and there are far more important things to focus on.  That opinion extends to this case -- the current ladder animation does not affect gameplay, therefore it is not really an issue.  (I realize, of course, that the thread author did not intend to point it out as a glaring deficiency in the first place)

First off, I don't think a game being "mainsteam" = bad. Mainstream means more people like it, which, if we're talking about the free market, makes it a better game. (whoa lots of commas)

Secondly, no. Graphics aren't the top priority, but they are important. This game is supposed to convey a sense of realism. That's one of it's major draws. (that and getting run over by riderless horses). So if the graphics in a certain area of the game are so ridiculous that one feels that they're "leaving the plane" so to speak, then that is a major problem.

So... is this a huge, game-ruining issue? No. Does it need to be addressed? Yes.

Besides, I'm sure there are countless modders out there who'd do this in half a second.  :wink:

Mainstream -- by which I meant "big" -- game designing companies rely a lot less on what their fans think and want when they're designing a game.  The beauty of Taleworlds is that not only do they build their game from the ground up paying attention to our feedback, their future is completely in our hands.  We no like, they no eat.  This isn't some haphazard game tested on a couple hundred kids and designed solely to make the most money possible on the market.  As far as video games go, Mount&Blade is a work of art.
