I find my self jumping very little in actual combat now that archers and throwers seemed to have picked up on how to aim. When you jump, as Archonsod said, your trajectory is fixed. You're going in one direction in a predictable path, and the archer will have an easy time placing an arrow in your gut.
In melee, it's a waste. You give your opponent time to back away or get closer, whichever they need to accomplish their task of killing you.
I only ever use it when I'm being charged down by horsemen. At least they fixed it so that you get knocked down if you jump into a horse. If I've got a weapon suitable for killing horsemen (a two-handed sword or a polearm) then I won't even bother with a jump. I'll just stand my ground and face their charge, and I usually end up killing the horse at least.
