Jumping and gravity

I've just started playing, and have a few suggestions which I'm keeping to myself until I know the game better.  However, one thing sticks out as "obvious" to me and I'd like to know if it's intentional.

When my character (or his horse) jumps, it's slow.  Is this related to Athletics or Riding skill?  I'm running or riding at speed and there's a fence ahead...so I jump, and suddenly feel like I'm floating.  When I land, eventually, I continue travelling at my previous fast rate.  Only during the jump itself the slowdown occurs.

Walking, running, and riding are well-implemented in this game, which is why the jumping thing feels so surprising.  I'd prefer to see jumping implemented in a similar way to other in-game movement (based on some model of physics), but perhaps this is intentional?  Maybe for game balance, or for dramatic effect, or something?

Anyway, I'm interested in whether others think this is a valid thing to look at, and I didn't see mention of it anywhere else in the forums.

Maybe it just feels slower because you are higher off the ground? I personally never noticed a direct and significant change in speed ::\ Your horizontal speed does tend to be divided into vertical + horizontal, which makes sense, but you continue traveling at the same speed throughout the jump... Or am I seeing things? ::razz:

I think it might just be the same optical difference between close and far objects, just like it seems you're going slow when you're traveling in a plane. You shouldn't be actually slowing down when you jump.

Of course you should. The only* forces affecting you while mid air are gravity and air resistance. Air resistance slows you down horizonally and gravity (of earth) pulls you down  vertically.

*Not including the gravity force of all particles in existence which in theory still affect the jumper.

Jumps do feel slow, but so do weapon animations, and running speeds. I live in a world of molasses.
