Jumped 3 levels from one mission?

I'm not sure if this is a bug or just a lucrative xp gain.

My char was level 3, I'd re-started after upgrading to the new version.
Got one of the quests to go hunt down the bandit-village-raiders, impossible for lvl3 alone, but by good luck, the enemy stumbled into one of my allies war parties, I joined the battle and much ownage ensued.
Passed the battle, headed back to tell the count, and when I next entered a city I was told that I was at lvl 6 and that the game was a demo and I'd need to buy a licence.

Now I'll be buying the game soon enough anyway, that's not the issue, but 3 levels seems a little much, is it a bug or did I just get damn lucky?

You just got extremely lucky. That raider quest gives a lot of experience points (3000-4500 points if I remember correctly), and that's a lot for a low-level character like yours.

It's a pity though, I'll have to wait to test out my nice shiny new suit of armour against the cursed Swadians!
I was going to buy visa-vouchers but I might just borrow a friends card and buy it tonight, I don't feel like slogging around with a new charecter.

Yeah, that quest is 4500xp if it was the mission given by either Swadians or Vaegirs. If it is the troublesome bandit quest, I can't remember, but it is also a good one for xp. Easily enough for 2 or 3 levels early on. Of course, you get that xp, plus any experience gained from the fight itself. Even if you didn't get any kills, you will get a share of the experience at the end.

You were very lucky to have stumbled on that situation for sure!

This is not a bug, it seems it is intented to be like that. But intending to do it like that might be a bug

Anyway, I don't think that there is going to be another guy to be lucky as you are. Just bask

aye both the nobleman and raider quests give great amounts of exp and gold.

i think the raider quest is 500 gold + 4500 exp
and the nobleman is 1000 gold + 3000 exp

both can be fairly hard early on though compared to the get x amount of item y quests
