Sergeant Knight at Arms
Hi there folks with good internet connections!

In my free time I like to draw and to write stories, and therefor I once made a hell of screenshots from "Kingdom of Heaven". The quality of the files I had was not the best (  ), but I think it makes the pictures look even more "real".

I thought it could be interesting for you to see some pictures from the movie, with details you usually don't get while simply watching it. By jumping from frame to frame you notice a lot of interesting details, so I think we will have a lot of to discuss here, whether something was historically accurate or not, if you could implement it in the mod, which pictures you like, and so on.

I divided the pictures into several blocks with 10 pictures each. So if you want to quote a picture simply look at what position in what block it is, and there you have the end number of the url.

143.png

Strange weapon for this period? :???:
144.png

A really crude dagger:

Notice the ellbow plates:

191-200
Notice those helmets: they are very similar to the one I mentioned before from a Jerusalem guard, something between bascinet and norman helmet, without nose guard:
191.png

192.png

Look at the glove! Look at the glove!
193.png

Again those helmets:
194.png

195.png

What's this? Some kind of ring armour?
197.png

198.png

210.png

211-220
I already saw this axe somewhere else, it looks kind of familiar to me:
211.png

A rather unusual helmet: :???:
212.png

213.png

214.png

215.png

216.png

217.png

Notice the hanging ring on this crude crossbow. Too bad it would be too difficult to implement as model, as it would look weird in one position of you model it for another
218.png

219.png

220.png

221-230

258.png

Several Saracen maces:
259.png

260.png

261-270
261.png

Notice the strange Saracen hammer, it appears several times in the movie, but in most cases only as a blurry shape in the distance. This is the best picture of it in the movie:
262.png

Bardiche-like axe:
263.png

Notice the slim, bearded axe, and the grip of the Saracen sword Balian tries to reach:
264.png

265.png

At the lelft side, again a slim axe, bearded, with a rather weird angle:
266.png

267.png

The gravedigger needs a gravedigger himself:

273.png

Probably the coolest guard in whole Palestine:
274.png

275.png

276.png

Look at my brigandine: the plastic rivets were only glued on it, and those damn Saracens have torn them away!
277.png

Yellow coloured norman helmet on the right side:
278.png

279.png

280.png

281-291
281.png

282.png

Axes and hammers were rather popular in this movie. Probably with reason, as chainmail is a tough enemy:
283.png

Final duel:
284.png

Rich Saracen nobleman outfit (looks somewhat clerical, and a bit orthodox :???: )
285.png

286.png

Saracen helmet. I thought helmets like these were used from 15th century on? :???:

Nice I was going to use images from that movie for the mod but I got shot down pretty quickly

I highly recommend it!

The flick has several "Hollywood"-issues, but I think you can forgive this, as you have the choice between historically accurate and crappy budget or more Hollywood-like with blockbuster-budget!

Yes, its a very nice movie i loved every part of it, eva green looks really cute!, just dont see it expecting historical accuracy. I love that noble horse charge and also that last siege. But make sure to get the extended directors-cut version.

Hehehe, I remember that. Honestly i like the new menu screens better , but i had loved that darker theme of the Kingdom of heaven screens you had used. Any chance of mixing the darker background theme of those screens with the current maciejowski pics.

Moin

My first post on this forum, bought MBWB via Steam recently
Played MB trail some months ago and now bought WB because I loved that game.

BTW can anyonetell me a good unit ratio to crusade? - I wanted to crusade a bit but get always roflstomped by mamluks/IlKhanates -.- My troops get wiped while they only sustain about 20losses ...
My wages are @ 2600 and I have 80men under weapons and two fiefs. These latin names are highly confusing tbh....

BTT:
KoH is one of my favorite movies.

Most of these Saracen stuffs are too late for the late 12th century. We can even see 17-18th century Persian/Indian helmets in that movie...

Those with the visor (like the thing baseball caps have  ) the nose guard and the side protection?

What are the Indian helmets? Those weird ones I mentioned?  :???:

i never get it,why must every historical movie be inacurate,i watched KoH recently (for 30th time )and i noticed that 17th century helmet, its Turkish i think. But its not that inacurate and stupid as the new Robin Hood, why why Rusell
btw ,the first part of the KoH rocks

http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h351/joker020886/Kingdomofheaven/244.png & http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h351/joker020886/Kingdomofheaven/243.png - The turbaned wrapped helmets are the Sicilian ones.

http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h351/joker020886/Kingdomofheaven/220.png - the rightmost dude is wearing an explicitly late Ottoman helmet, and I think the leftmost guy is probably tricksy.

But there are some accurate enough stuff in KoH. Armor of the Saracens isn't terribly off, and the bascinet you remark on a lot I am fairly sure is the ubiqutous medieval phyrigan style of helmet made famous by use in sicily and by the Sicilio-Normans.

So what's about the different equipment we see?

-Saracen helmet with movable nose guard [false] (anachronism)
-Bascinet like helmet [True]
-Small horse mail
-Saracen cleaver [false] (wrong location, European weapon)
-Saracen "bardiche"
-Saracen mace
-Morningstar with three "heads"
-Saracen "halberd", looking like a great long bardiche
-Another bascinet-like christian helmet [True]
-... and the muslim version [false] (wrong location, Sicilian)
-Leather armour with rings [false] (wrong location, propably Polish, very rare)
-Leather armour with round plates
-Curved muslim sabre
-Weird christian helmet [True] (stunted Phrygian helmet)
-Muslim warhammer
-"Modern" Sipahi helmet [False] (anachronism)

Edit: Ah, Sahran, you already answered some questions, thx!

I can't give a specific date to the 1st Saracen helmet but I know it's not suitable to the 12th century. It 'might' work for the very end of the 13th century, but it's probably much more of a 14th or 15th century.

The cleaver's if memory serves authentic - problem is, I seem to recall that exact design being specifically European!

Saracen Bascinets are the Sicilian helmets.

Ringmail armor is something I've only ever seen one reference to, in one of Ian Heath's books and attributed to Polish infantry. It probably existed elsewhere, but I think it's one of those highly rare armors in history kept alive in part thanks to D&D and fantasy (same reason you see ****ty fantasy leather armor 90% of the time).

Weird Christian helmet is the Sicilian helmet, a stunted phyrigan style.

071.png
This is a sort of Khula khud. The earliest helmet like that that I know is from the mamluk sultan Kalaun (late 13th century). It became very popular in Persia, India, Central Asia, some Ottoman lands and perhaps Russia in the 16-17-18th century and was still used in the 19th century. This one looks rather like medieval ones, but in the movie we can see the 17-18th century version.

287.png

This one is a Turkish shishak. It appears in the 15th century. It is typical of the Ottomans.

194.png

I think they tried to make a phrygian helmet, which was popular among many Islamic armies. In Osprey Saracen Faris, there is a helmet quite close to this.

Now, after I watched the extended version as recommended. I do agree that this is a good movie. Especially if you've already spent some time in the area like the most of us.
I saw many items in the movie that I knew from the game and finally the mystery is no longer a mystery from where the big siege scene and all those scenes we once had in the pictures came from.

Anyway... great fun.

where is the most badass slash from mr.Hospitaller on horseback  i love David Tewliss

I like that Hospitaller.

A pity that they were so accurate with some heraldry (remarkably, the arms of Ibelin), and so sloppy with many other issues (like Raymon of Tripoli, or Guy de Lusignan's coat of arms, making him some sort of secular Templar brother. The same with Reynald of Châtillon. The arms of Châtillon are awesome!).

Robin Hood was much, much worse.

There's also the depiction of the two aformentioned villains. It went over the top in making them oafish, pig-like and disgusting much as Troy did with Agamemmnon and Menelaus. As I understand it, Reynald of Chatllion was well remarked as a handsome if amoral bastard, and Guy De Lusigian was apparently the pretty-boy trophy wife of Sibylla whose flaw was that he couldn't decide anything for himself and let the one with the last word convince him. Of course directors ought to have leeway with characters and such, but I would have liked for a bit less of a caracitureness to them.

That's pretty much the point. Reynald de Châtillon was Prince of Antioch before spending 20 years in a Muslim prison, because he seduced the Princess of Antioch! And Guy, more than the trophy-boy of Sibylla, was the pretty and ambitious heartbraker, who seduced Sybilla and got her to love him in a strange way back in those days of political marriages.

At the time, she was but a kid, but some months ago, a Spanish girl fell in love with a Romanian guy and fled home with him, only to find out that it was all a trap to kidnap her. The same thing probably happened to Sybilla.
