Jerusalem?

Hierosolyma is under Greek rule, and therefore titled Greek as it was known to be named at the time

Mmh, it's rather wrongly placed then... And why is it a castle and not a city?

Placing can be only correct so-much on a map that's scaled down thousands of times anyways. I'd say you be happy there is a Jerusalem at all. I can't say that it was very important during the timeframe.

It was rather a pain in Antiochos V Epiphanes' rear, and that alone made it important to the Ptolemies.  Not important to Rome =/= not important.  But yeah, compared to Selucia, Persepolis, Babylon, and the half of the Selucid Empire that's not on the map, Jerusalem was minor league.

Antiochos V only came a hundred years later though. In 268BC the Ptolemics had Jerusalem and were the stronger ones. Antiochos V very famous in Judism for being the bad guy in the Hanukah story.

The Hanuka story takes place in about 165BC, about 100 years after this time frame. Jerusalm was small potatoes back then and even after that. It really took off after King Herod started building there like mad, almost 300 years after the current time frame.

Yes, that is what I said.

Yes Eleabor is correct Hierosolyma is Jerusalem in Greek. Jerusalem itself derives from the Greek Hierosolyma or Hier(o)usalem-->Jerusalem in Jewish it is called Sion...

I would suppose that you yourself are Greek...

Well, I am Israeli so I have the bible in its original language and can assure you that the name of the city is ירושלים Yerushalaim Jerusalem and not sion.

Well, if you'd know a bit of the history of the language, then the name Jerusalem comes from Sion, in some odd ways. My teacher told me how but I've forgotten. Basically though, Danny is correct.

'I'd not like to resort to wiki, but that says:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerusalem#Etymology

You were more correct but we weren't wrong.

It was under Ptolemic control in 268BC. Only later it was captured by the Selucids.
