Items in the inventory menu quite dark.

In a previous post I asked about making the inventory box backgrounds lighter in color so I can see whats inside them easier and in more detail, as some things are quite dark and hard to see, but another question I have, is if anybody else has the situation where some items are actually very dark or "dull" and kind of greyed out, which makes them extremely hard to see.

An example for me is the "woolen hat" type items and some horses, which are so dark as to be almost impossible to see, and its not an issue with my monitor or gamma  Sometimes I actually have to mouse over a box just to see if their is anything in them. I had this issue with the original M&B as well, and i'm using the directX 7 settings as my computers is a couple of years old now.

Does anyone have any input?

  I havent had or even heard of this problem before personally. What kind of video card do you use? Also when was the last time you updated the drivers? Have you tried different video options in game? I am assuming that mount and blade is the only time you run into this type of problem.

you're monitor is dull. buy a new comp. 

Seriously, i had a monitor that was so dull that a forest looked like night, and outside in desert was the only place i could see. Even with the setting full.

No issues with any other games, and all exterior and interiors are fine, just the menu's.

I know its old and crappy, but I use a Nvidia FX5200XT, updated as far as it will go 

most things are fine in the menu and I can see them perfectly, just a small range of individual items are quite dull or dark.

  Well as much as I am sure you hate to hear it; I think you just answered your own question. Probably time to turn in your dinosaur for a new beast. At least the video card anyway.

yah I do have a new card on its way, but was just interested as this is the only game with those issues and only with certain items, funny thing is i'm still inclined to think its actually not GPU related.

Will see what happens when the new card arrives

  I am thinking it is because it only happens in mount and blade. If it was your monitor you would almost surely have the same problem in all of your programs and stuff. Any graphics problems I ever had with particular games that didnt happen in any other programs almost always were related to the video cards, for me anyways.

Heres a screenie of what i mean, the "blank" boxes all have something in them. My horse is a regular Saddle horse, etc etc.

Try running the game in DX 9, it may help.

No difference, except for things looking prettier and FPS going all to hell

calibrate your monitor. this is something i do all the time to get the right colors for my photo editing. it's also important in games that you get the contrast/brightness settings on your monitor correct as well. samsung LCDs have served me well for the longest time. they dont give me a grey hue of low contrast and their black levels and white highlight levels are correct.

so it's not really a graphics card thing, it's more about your monitor output

I have the same issue. I don't mind so much, I just can't see things like olives, some hats etc.

I've got a NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT, with latest drivers. Will fiddle with monitor caliberation to see if that helps.

Calibrating the monitor (done before the screenie above) helped see everything else fine, but still those individual items are too dark, near invisible. If everything else is fine, except those individual items, wouldn't that suggest that its the colours of the individual items that are the issue?

I had a card once that I couldn't see the black hoods and helms at all, just barely the white lines. cant recall the card though. Maybe it was an ATI X300. I'm guessing it's a shader model issue.

Yes same here, I can see everything in that screenshot just fine.

You tried kicking the monitor a couple of times to see if that helps?

Recalibrated the monitor, fiddling with contrast, brightness and individual colour hues... still can't see those damn hats, hoods, horses and olives.

I just ignore those items now. Only ride Horses I can see... hahaha.

Maybe your sitting an angle to your monitor, i usually can't see items in my inventory if i lean to the left/right a bit.

maybe its a Nvidia issue if Finjinimo with a much later card is having the same issue?

In any case, my new card should a arrive in a week or so, a Sapphire Radeon HD2400 Pro 512MB card. A  little bit better than my old FX5200 card, but this PC is not worth anything else
