Italian children forced to leave home at 18

That sounds nice, but if you're an immigrant family I don't think one can rely on a wealth of relatives to help them out. Although, considering that most Italians probably are native to their homeland I don't think that applies.
Although for immigrant fueled countries like Canada (Page two) that seems to be the case.

But what about personal space?

You can't really bring a girl home if your house is chock full of peeps.

I don't think Muslim men are actively encouraged to "bring girls home".

Maybe they should. Could you imagine your mother hooking YOU up with some guy?

What's wrong with living at home with your parents after 18? I think it's a great idea until you can graduate from a college or university, after you've graduated is when you should be looking into moving out and getting your own place. Until then it's just a good idea to stay shacked up with your parents or at least it is for people in my situation.

I'm 19 soon and living with my mother (uni gap year). I'm contemplating another year out while I get a job, but I reallllllllly want to have a small place to myself. Be ncier.

Llandaryn: Well yeah, of course, I sincerely hope that everyone has to do work around the house for pocket-money, but in this case I was referring to Guiseppe, who from what I can gather from the article, hasn't at least had the experience of living without the guiding hand of his parents for more than a week.

Even if you return shortly afterwards, that's fine, I just think it's important to actually see what it's like; like the mother said in the video, she hopes that he'll leave home one day and start his own family, could be a bit of a shock if he meets someone that doesn't want to wait on his every need.

Well yeah, that's not really what this topic was about, was it now?

To be honest, I didn't read most of your post or click the link in the OP either. I just fixated on your last sentence and went off on a tangent.

But yeah, I totally agree with what you just said. Especially the parts with the goblins and the unicorns.

I disagree with the law FORCING people out of their parents' homes, because there are reasons you literally can't, even if you want to. For example, if the family is poor, you might feel (or your parents might impress) an obligation to stay and help (that's not necessarily literally, but it's certainly hindering).

However, I think there should be something in place to make people do something with themselves. This guy, the way he worded it, sounds like he won't even get a girlfriend because "no one's as good as mum." Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we usually refer to such mentalities as regressive?
People like him who can move out but just don't, or don't even try, rather piss me off, to be honest. It makes the rest of us with our parents look bad. It's nothing but pure laziness and irresponsibility, and I can't imagine he does very well at his job, or any job he gets.

I can move out but have no intention of trying  :???:

Waiting till uni so I can have money and not have to come back for food.
