It has not been 8 years...

Just to clear up some misconceptions, it has not been 8 years in devolopment. TaleWorlds has restarted multiple times throughout the devolopment phase to build their own engine, and anybody that knows how devolopment works, knows that that is quite an undertaking, especially for such a small studio as theirs.
Also, if your still upset at the state of the game, remember that it is in EARLY ACCESS for a reason, so that bugs can tested and fixed for the full release. If you read the announcement, it’s pretty clear that issues were gonna be present, they have already worked on and currently working on these issues. Regarding the price, no one made you buy it lol, so if your upset that you paid 50 for an unfinished game, thats on you.
I have all my trust in TaleWorlds to make this game as good as it can be, I trusted them with warband, and they delivered. If you have criticism, then by all means state it, but if it’s straight up complaining and whining without stating a reason why and telling us you have refunded the game, your helping no body. We as a gamer community must be better then this.

If this was the full game, then I’d understand all the hate, but it’s not, its ea.

You're totally right and there is some images to support you.

-This is the first inventory screen.
-And this is current.

-This the first map and stats bar.
-This is second.
-And this is the current

So true!

The problem with TaleWorlds, is that they weren't at all transparent about their progress, and the issues they were having with the engine. It was left to us to speculate.

Be that as it may, restarting development of the same project counts as time spent on the project.

I mean, if I was given a task by my boss that was projected to take 3 weeks, at week 2 I realized I needed to redo my research/ground work/basics/etc., and told my boss I will have to restart, that's still my problem.

In other words, it still took Taleworlds eight years to release Bannerlord as an Early Access. No excuse.

yea, of course, but you can’t deny the fact that when new engines are created, you can’t just copy paste the files and what not from the older engine to the newer, so to say they’ve been working on the game itself non stop is a lie.

They still spent 8 years developing the game, not our fault they restarted it several times.
Also, ok, new engine, can't blame them, some things dont work, whats inexcusable is the absolute lack of basically any kind of flavor text for anything at all, the game is as barebones as it can be.

Unfortunately, this is a hard sell to some people. A lot of people don't know much about software development, never mind game development. Any minor issue will be touted as great failings by some due to misunderstandings about how games are developed.

However it's also a good opportunity to teach people about how much work is put in to make games like Bannerlord!

Regardless of how long this has taken. How transparent they were or how many times they restarted. There is an EARLY ACCESS version of a game before us. Its buggy, broken and battered. But its a new game, and the bones look good. Issues are getting fixed and will be if they're not. Right now, they're prioritizing the biggest issues, like crashes, and broken saves. Then they'll work on broken mechanics and game play issues. Finally they'll work on optimization. Welcome to EARLY ACCESS kids. Thank you for your PATIENCE. Now pick up a lance and carry on.

I'm an Software Architect and it doesn't matter if we restart a project 3 times, the only thing the business people care about is the time we were allotted to complete the project.

So in practical terms, yes, they've been working on it for 8 years. From a business and consumer perspective that's how long it took to get here.

Not really saying anything for or against TW - it's a reality that sometimes you have to scrap your progress and 'restart' - just saying that in the software engineering world all the time/resources spent on a project is considered the cost of that project. Not just from the last time you restart a project.

I am working in software development (not games though) and I can see a project like bannerlord taking 8 years if it's done by a small team (5-10 people) that is building everything from scratch.

However, I was surprised to find out from Wikipedia that taleworlds has 102 employees (as of 2016). I'm not sure for how long they've employed so many people, but 8 years with 100+ employees is too much no matter how you look at it. Probably very poor time and task management.

What I meant was working on the game itself, but I see your point

LOL So true. I can only stab with mine, even at full gallop and using a lance that's marked as couchable. Even my KNIGHTS LANCE can't be couched. /sigh. *Picks up a Bastard Sword*
? We are gonna miss the Warband isn't it?
