Issuing commands to multiple groups in battle?

Let's say I've got my infantry holding position in a line and archers holding in a line behind them. Anyone know of a way to tell BOTH Infantry AND Archers to advance ten paces together? (Without using the tactical overlay, just keystrokes.) So that I can hit, say, 0 (for both Infantry and Archer group), then F2-F1 (Formation->Advance), rather than hitting 1-F2-F1 and 2-F2-F1?

I know about "all others", but that doesn't work either because I've got a bunch of other groups.

In your 'Party' window you can assign different groups to all your units. Just create a new group number 7 e.g. called, say, 'Infantry+Archers' and assign all the troops you want to sort under that category to your new group. That should let you hit 7 and then command all your achers and infantry under that group.

but they can only be in 1 group? so he would always need to select inf + arch. but i guess thats the only way if not using the shift key.

or can u split one type of units? like if you have 10 huscarls you can put 5 huscarls in one group and 5 in another?

Oh, SHIFT key??? Awesome, thanks. I'll try that. And yeah, I want to keep em in seperate groups.

So you're saying, if I want to issue Advance Ten Paces command to both of them, I type:

1(Infantry), then SHIFT+2 (AND Archers), F2 (Formation), F1 (Advance Ten Paces).

I guess this is what happens when you buy online and don't get a manual.

I don't think you can split them up like that. Unless they're split up in your party list they'll all go in the same group. I haven't used it that much as I'm pretty ok with the standard setup, but maybe you can assign several groups to each type of unit so your infantry are in both the 'Infantry' group and the 'Infantry+Archers' group?

I don't have a manual either. Took me a while to notice it was possible. Another nice feature that's easy to miss is that you can tell groups to move to different spots by holding the 'Hold this position' key. That brings up a flag you can move around. It sure beats using the tactical map.

You can't split one unit type into multiple groups, nor can you list a unit under more than one group class. By the way, I haven't really noticed whether it applies the group to all units of that type or just the ones in your party. Anyone know?

It does. If you make your 3 Rhodok Veteran Spearmen part of your Archers group, every Rhodok Veteran Spearman you later recruit/level up will be part of the Archers group.

I was more meaning whether it applies it to allied troops you command when marshal/in a siege.

I don't really feel like I'm commanding much of anything when allies join the battle. I usually tell my army to 'Hold this position' until I get a view of the land and pick out a few prime locations etc., but allies seem to just charge, pretty much ****ing up my whole strategy. Rather annoying, so when they do I just let my archers go nuts and tell the associated Lord that his troops didn't obey me and payed the price. Oh well.

That's because you're not the Marshal. If you're just an ordinary lord, allied armies will ignore you , except in sieges oddly enough. Once you become Marshal, you can give orders to all allied troops. That doesn't stop them ruining your battle by filling your army with their giant stacks of ****ty low level troops, though.

i think the advance and fallback paces keys are reversed in 1.113, but anyway, if you open up the minimap/battle orders window using backspace or whatever you mapped it to, you can place a checkmark beside multiple categories and command. this window is uselss at night since you cant see text x_x make sure you click in the checkmark area or it will only select that one.

ill have to try that shift hold thing.
