Isn't this a bit too much ? (Bandits)

I feel the bandits are the most Warbandey thing in the game, in a bad way.

They seem to just roam around and do nothing for a living, they spawn out of nowhere and don't have any connection to the actual sandbox quasi simulation of the world other than very rarely engage peasants.

That's not to mention it's totally impossible to defeat 20+ forest bandit hideout with realist damage on. They pretty much 2-shot every troop with sniper precision.

I can see wanting to be a merchant going around without a huge army at your back, so from that perspective I see why the oceans of bandits are annoying,

But from my perspective.. I'm missing some actually challenging bandit-type armies walking around... Proper bandit lords or deserters.. The game is really bland when you aren't at war.

I think areas around town ought to be much safer than they currently are, but we should also have areas of the map invaded by much more interesting bandit-type enemies.. Places you can't go to untill you have a proper little army.. Maybe a coastal area where blood thirsty raiders have landed, or a bandit king having taken an old castle in the mountains somewhere

Destroying the hideout would be a good fix, if only it wasnt practically impossible. There's like 40-80 of steppe bandits on the east side hideouts on my save. I can bring 8 guys at a time. That would result in me having to do like 10 runs of each hideout (and theres like at least 6 hideouts there). It's unrealistic to expect me to do that. I'd lose SO much money buying new troops, and have to spend another long ass time leveling them up. That is assuming none of the factions I am at war with start attacking my place so I have to go and defend that.

They should just add the manhunters from warband whose sole purpose was just to hunt down bandits, or make lords more likely to aggro onto bandits. The amount of steppe bandits (and especially steppe bandits which are really costly to kill unless you have pikemen and archers pretty much) is just too much. I have no trouble with them as I usually run around with 250+ men, but after defending a siege and I lost a few men I have no way of dealing with them and they straight up outnumber me (because they will aggro with like 4 parties at once resulting in like 150+ dudes). Can't outrun them either if you have a lot of wounded

Yes reducing the actual number of these buggers and making some proper bandit lords/sea raiders/rebel armies would be far more interesting. For example in Viking Conquest fighting against sea raiders was actually a lot more interesting because they were armed to the teeth, very skilled and organized with shield walls and whatnot, But I guess Viking Raiders weren't exactly your average bandits. Either way in comparison this is just boring and repetitive not to mention very irritating depending on your playstyle.

My thoughts exactly

I too absolutely hate the bandit spam. The hideouts need to not respawn endlessly for a start, I have destroyed as many as 3 in exactly the same spot almost without moving. A few larger groups or bandit armies would be fine, but the millions of tiny groups everywhere all the time is really stupid.

You can see 2 hideouts in your picture, my guess is they spawn from there. You need to clear them out.
There's probably not many lords walking through that particular area, that's why so many piled up.
This is why manhunters are needed, the player shouldn't be literally the only person on the continent attacking bandit hideouts. This wasn't so much of an issue in warband as the hideouts were fewer and there was more open terrain to flee bandits. As it stands now, every time you get captured you have to navigate a labyrinth of mountain passes full of enemy lords AND bandit parties that are unavoidable most times. It's frustrating and unfair.

Yes please! I get the feeling that they mercenary companies were supposed to replace manhunters, but I don't think they are doing a good job at that. Besides the manhunter troop tree had its own flavor.

they need to merge up into bigger parties as they spawn. and slow them down so lords don't spend days chasing them down.
That would be handy. Fighting bigger parties would be more fun and it would be nice if they were slower. I have never fought steppe bandits in the open field because I can't catch them and even with a lot of cavalry and spare horses it can take me a while to catch the bandits that are entirely on foot.

The bandit spam is absolutely nuts. What if I don't want to destroy their hideouts? Will lords do it? They need to bring back city patrols.

There's no doubt bandits need some balancing, they're decimating my villagers and ruining my economy every time I go off to war and stop chasing them down 24/7. The sheer amount of them means villagers are constantly fleeing and struggle reaching their city.

-Hideouts need slight toning down, especially respawn.

-Looters spawn rate definitely needs toning down. They're just an infestation you can't do anything about. Make their party bigger, faster and less common rather than an infinite number of ~15 armies which are just enough to scare villagers across the map.

-We need to be able to tell companion/clan parties to patrol an area

-AI need to hunt them down far more actively.

-Slow them down 0.1 or 0.2 if none of the above just so you don't waste days chasing them down.

This so much. My last playthrough I escaped in the mountains of Battania only to be successively waylaid multiple times by different bandit parties. Aggravating to say the least.

This, having dozens upon dozens of tiny bandit parties running all over the place and is very difficult to chase is no fun.

Have them merge together when visiting hideout would be a good idea. There are already bandit lords there, just have them take over command of the smaller parties and then go out to raid.

Viking Conquest actually has a more dynamic bandit system, where big vikings and deserter parties actually raid villages and, you can also release your prisoners under the command of a bandit leader so they go on and raid enemy territory! Not to mention you can actually do business with the bandits.

Seriously, there are a lot of things in VC that will improve BL.

VC is criminally underrated. I feel like people didn't give it enough of a chance. I always thought it was a monumental improvement over the original.

this too. hideouts are lame battles right now, really poorly designed, why cant other lords clear them out once in a while?
