Is this a good deal?

I'm kinda playing around with the idea of buying a good desktop computer, partly because I want to put some games and CAD software on that I can't on my laptop. I found this ad online and I'm not the most computer hardware savvy so I am wondering if I can get some opinions on this.

$1000 can buy you a lot better. If you can catch a sale, you could buy all that brand new with a warranty for that price.

If you go ahead and buy it, I'd give the whole thing a good wipe-down with some disinfectant wipes or something.

^ What the ****?

what are you talking about my signature?

No, he's talking about your completely useless post that contributed nothing to the conversation.

(Just like mine, eh?)

No, the fact that you posted in a 9 day old thread (Not saying that's old) with a completely useless and unnecessary answer after half a dozen good answers.

*Edit.. What he said.

ComingWinter,

Find someone who can build you a computer for free.  (If you lived near me, I'd do it for you.)

Subscribe to email notifications about sales from TigerDirect and Newegg.  Decide what you want.

Check your email every day and wait until the parts go on sale.  They will.  It could take a month or more, but you won't spend more then $700 or so, for something better then that.

I spent $350 on my PC, total, parts from both sites.

Nvidia nForce 750i SLI Extreme
Pentium Dual Core E6500 Clocked @ 2.93 Ghz
2 GB PC 8500 RAM (Big mistake, should have just gone with 6400, because there isn't a $20 difference.)  I still plan on getting another 2 gbs though.
2 Nvidia GeForce 9500 GTs running in SLI
2 300 GB Hard Drives, 1 IDE and 1 SATA
Kingwin Mach 1 600W Modular Power Supply
Raidmax Case with clear side and leds
Windows 7 Home Premium
ZeroTherm blah blah blah fan

Not a bad PC for $350, eh?

Can play anything that's thrown on it, and makes things look pretty too.  It's mad fast compared to my old one, though it isn't even state of the art.

It's all about patience, knowing what you want, and knowing that what you want will always be cheaper next week.

EDIT: Just realized this thread is sorta old.  Oh well, won't let a good post go to waste.

Same here. I got an old 8 year old Dell with a 2.8 Pentium 4 single core processor in it. everything is stock except VC and memory.

Ive got a five year old dell that wasn't designed for gaming. And I have the same stuff from when I got it. It's OK, but It truly does suck. If I try playing things like M&B on high quality, It performs like a slideshow of pictures.

I think you're gonna need a better PSU with that, but it's a pretty good deal if you have the money.  I'd get it if I did.
I paid $65 retail for my 600W Modular PSU (Only reason I bought it retail is because my old one broke, and I needed a new one ASAP)

Honestly, I'd probably go with an nForce mobo for cheaper, and a quad core instead of i3, I heard that the "i" series isn't performing as well as they should in games and such.  That'll probably change in the next few years though.  So it all depends on where you want to be with the technology.
I'd also wait for individual sales, some things go wicked cheap.  (For instance, I saw a new 7200 RPM 1 TB HDD, for $39.99 the other day.)
