Is there such thing as roman-like republic?

First time ever i could try the singleplayer today. I foınd it quite appealing for myself as there is a empire theme. My question is if the Lucon unites the empire, than what happens? Does the empire really unites or stay as Northern Empire? Does it stay like a straight up kingdom or switch to a republic system as there is consuls, parlaments, tribunuses? Or what happens if Lucon just dies, is it his son or whatever comes as a monarch?

I couldn't try these all and i am quite curious.

For now it stays as the faction they started, even if the AI does manage to unify the empire. Right now there are no republic-like polities in the game.

There are policy effects, like the Senate, that make it so non-ruler clans have a bit more influence. That's it, though. The base structure of the government is still a Monarchy no matter what it seems.

I really wish they would expound upon this. Like after you adopt Senate, more options become available along a democracy/republic policy tree. Or if you choose to go the opposite route (ruler clan gets more power), you should have more options down a divine right policy tree. Or even autocracy/authoritarian spin offs. It would be really cool to see certain clans gain so much influence they actually start instituting policies against the monarchy, or even overthrow the monarchy by velvet revolutions.

Thank you guys for answers. Well, it could be nice if we had an actual senate.

I think that a lot of kingdom building and mechanics will be added much later, because they are flavor adding now the focus is all on making the game less a nut and nerves breaker... by killing the bugs and fixing the holes

Offf topic:
An senate is s,hit why do you think the Roman republic transformed itself in an empire.. ran by an emperor... All those orgy loving senators which were loaded with money had to have an opinion which grounded the mighty republic to a stand still during a war you would have 100 senators. 20 saying we need to attack somebody else, other saying we need make peace, other say we need to raid right now.. until you had a consensus or majority the republic wasn't allowed to act..

So whole villages got destroyed and plundered before the senate even could make a decision, until one man grabbed the power and caused the republic to conquer a big part of the known world of that time.

Definitely off-topic, but the failures of the Roman Senate were certainly cited very frequently by Monarchs of ages after to dump on any European Republics -- e.g. Netherlands. I think this is exactly why the game needs it

Having those unique challenges in the game for a republic nation would definitely make the game far more interesting! Like corruption of senators who have negative honor. Warmongering senators that have the cruel trait, etc. Make assassinations and trials possible  Influence suddenly becomes far more precious, rather than a popularity contest of who gets the pleb castles. We could go on for an entire thread about it. This would be such an amazing game if they implemented everything properly.

I'm forced to agree with you due to the superb arguments, Should def need to be implemented! This game has endless possibilities, I'm very curious what our Turkish brothers will accomplish in the next few months!

The Northern Empire is the closest to honoring the old republican roots of Calradia, but note that while Lucon talks a big talk about the Senate, he still makes himself emperor. It's really more about defending the property interests of the Senate (and even then, just a certain segment of the Senate that has followed Lucon) than anything else. Both Garios and Rhagaea have their own senatorial supporters -- all the clan leaders are senators.

Note that in the game files, all three empire factions are SUPPOSED to start with the Senate policy unlocked (check spkingdoms.xml). Additionally, the Northern Empire is supposed to start with Property Protection policy unlocked (the Southern and Western Empires have a different second policy).

Yeah, just so you know, the majority of Roman conquests were done by the Roman Republic, not by the Roman emperors. In fact, the Republic's great success at conquering things was a large contributing factor to why it fell, because there was an incentive for politicians to conquer in order to win power and this distorted the Republic's power structures (and economic system).

Note too that the Roman Senate outlasted the Roman Empire, and was around in the West until the 8th century or so and in the East, far longer still (though the eastern senate was FAR weaker and far less important than the traditional Senate of Rome).

Technically speaking, the player gains the title of senator upon becoming a vassal of one of the three empires. That is their civil title, and they get the military title of archon. Sadly, nowhere is this actually reflected in the game -- but you are in fact getting your position as a lord in the Imperial hierarchy by virtue of being a senator.

Hell yes, I'd absolutely love to see things like this get implemented.
