So, after amassing a hundred or so Lady Knights I decided to finally get involved with one of the factions. Unfortunately, I chose the Nords, shortly before realizing that this was not a good choice for roleplaying reasons. As of now, I'm only a mercenary.
Unfortunately, the people I WANT to join (the Swadians), are at war with the Nords. This, as I see it, leaves me with a few options.
1: Find the claimant to the Swadian throne and support them.
Problem. Said Claimant is in Khergit lands, who the Nords are ALSO at war with (despite being on opposite ends of the country- go figure), and as such I cannot request an audience with her. Believe me, I tried.
2: Find the claimant to the Nord throne, give them my support and then ditch them.
While this does free me from my obligation to the Nords, it also means I've pissed off half the world and left myself entirely without support which, as situations go, is -to use the Great British Understatement- less than ideal. It also means permenantly removing that claimant, and I'm leery of doing something so... Permenant.
3: Find the claimant to the Nord throne, give them my support and then follow through.
While again freeing me from my obligation to the Nords, this means I'm forced to conquer the Nords, who I'm trying to get LESS involved with, not more.
4: Become a Vassal of the Nords, then demand unreasonable amounts of plunder over the course of the campaign, prompting the High Jarl to sack me.
The first problem with this is that it again ties me closer to the Nords, as opposed to freeing me from them. Secondly, who to wage war against? The Khergits on the other side of the world, who are annoying to fight and whom I have no interest in ruling (because doubtless my request to own the first conquered castle or so WILL be granted)? Or the Swadians whom I'm trying to AVOID pissing off even further?
5: Attempt to enter service to one of the people neither the Nords nor the Swadians are at war with, then from there enter the service of the Swadians.
I... Honestly have no idea if this would even work. Would it?
6: Let my contract run out.
While apparently the simplest answer, this has a couple of problems. Firstly, it's a chore to wander around the land for so long. Secondly, by the time it has, I'll probably have been caught in a few more fights with Swadia. Thirdly, uncertainty- who knows what else might have happened by then?
Am I missing any options here? Thinking things through wrong? Overestimating how bad one outcome is? Because currently, it seems I've got nothing but bad options. So... Uh... Help?
