Is there any intelligence in how factions declare war?

My second character attempt started in the land of the Nords and became mercenary to their king after a while. The Nords have been at war with the Swadians and the Vaegir for ages. After lots of back and forth, the Swadians could retake all their castles during the last fights, and the Vaegir used the chance to take many Nord castles while destroying what little Nord forces were left. But in this situation, King Ragnar had a solution to the problem: Let's declare war on the Khergits!

I guess these events are purely random? I'm thinking of changing the employer .

They're not truly random but there's a very large random element.  I had to dig through the code to convince myself of that a couple weeks ago, though.

Well, if you, the charecter, take the quest to start a war for someone, then yeah, it sorta makes sense. But beyond that, its random.

Stuff it takes into account:
- how many wars are currently going
- the number of towns and castles owned by a faction
- the number of armies currently fielded by a faction
- the current relation with that faction
- player quests

That's all I'm going to say.  If you want to really dig into the guts of it, feel free to grab the ModuleSystem and inspect randomly_start_war_peace.  It's a little hard to follow but not too bad.  Fun stuff.

that doesn`t really seem logical. A faction is at war with three of the other factions(and losing), only two of those factions are at war with each other and it starts a friggin`war with the last one! I think it`s more random than anything else.

what I meant was that there`s no logic at all in how they start wars.

It's not logic at all when I started playing as a Khergit merc they started a war with every other faction execep the  Swadians and I was getting quests from lords to declare war on them too. really hard to make money from tourniment betting when everyone hates you. not to mention the fact that it took me 3 hours to get the strange armor set. was always getting captured. all this happend at LVL 12ish so I didn't have any money to deal with troops after that.

Heh, I there is not probably not much anything logical in it but Vaegirs fight against all four others as I have conquered five more castles for them. Swadians and Rhodoks seem to have some kind of alliance against us and Khergits like to attack us too. Then, when I we really had problems fighting against them all, Nords declared war on us. I mean, that's pretty logical... Or would have been if Nords wouldn't be easiest enemies for me.

hi , i also noted something strange when i was playing, i was with the swadians, at war with the nords and rhodoks, i obtained lots of victories with the rhodoks, and the i noticed when i was passing near a khegit army that they were friendly  with me, isthat because of an alliance?also they were in war with the rhodoks, could it also be that as i also am theyre enemy and defeated some of theyre lords in battle?

pure randomness, however, the swadians are always at war with someone, that's for sure
if it isn't with a random faction, it is with me
