Is there a way to stop all the troops charging at the beginning of battles?

Eh..... There are plenty of commands, for example "hold this position"... How long have you played this game  ?

I think he means a standing command, so that they form rows first thing, without having to order them.  Would be nice, especially for battles with lots of cavalry.

i Have played warband for a few weeks now, and there are mods etc to stop the charging there, i would think its a simple tweak to stop this happening, like brxbrx says

Yeah, your soldiers charging as soon as the battle starts is dumb.  They should wait for orders by default, or have standing orders you can set before battle.

I believe there is a mod called "Pre-battle orders and deployment" which lets you choose and queue starting orders for your troops

ok loaded the mod and i like the way it uses your tactic points to give you access to more order options, thanks for the help

You can also just hit F1 F1 at the top of the battle.
