Is there a setup manual anywhere?

I'm having trouble getting the game to run. I ran the install and then went to the program directory and double clicked on the the game. The hourglass popped up beside my cursor for about 15 seconds and then disappeared, after hitting alt+ctrl+del I found that the process was running, but nothing appeared to be happening. After reading the boards for awhile I found someone describing a similar problem and being able to get around it by changing start_windowed in the config file to 1, so I tried that but I get the same thing.
Is there a FAQ anywhere about setup issues, or does anyone know how to fix this problem?
I am running windows XP on a 2ghz mahcine with 256mb of RAM and an intel onboard graphics chipset.
